P Deletion Syndrome Originating from Rare Unbalanced Whole-Arm Translocation between Chromosomes 13 and 18
18p deletion (18p-) syndrome is a rare chromosome abnormality that has a wide range of phenotypes, with short stature, intellectual disability, and facial dysmorphism being the main clinical features. Here, we report the first case in Korea of a 16-year-old male adolescent with 18p- syndrome resulting from de novo unbalanced whole-arm translocation between chromosomes 13 and 18 (45, XY, der(13;18)(q10:q10)). Three rare clinical findings were disc…
Clinical Significance of the Fetuin-A-to-Adiponectin Ratio in Obese Children and Adolescents with Diabetes Mellitus
Fetuin-A and adiponectin are inflammatory cytokines associated with obesity and insulin resistance. This study aimed to examine the fetuin-A-to-adiponectin ratio (FAR) in diabetic children and to determine the role of FAR. A total of 54 children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus (DM) and 44 controls aged 9-16 years were included in this study. Clinical characteristics, including plasma fetuin-A and adiponectin levels, were compared with resp…
Associations between Sclerostin and Anthropometric and Metabolic Parameters in Children and Adolescents
(1) Background: Bone plays an important role in the regulation of the systemic glucose and energy metabolism. Sclerostin, secreted by osteocytes, is an inhibitor of the Wnt/β-catenin bone metabolic pathway, and is involved in osteoporosis and metabolic disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sclerostin and anthropometric and metabolic parameters in children and adolescents with obesity or who are overweight. (2)…
A Study for the Anatomic Feature of Asian Tribes
We observed and measured the structures showing the golden ratio in human body. Southeast Asian tribes, Aka and Lahu who live in Thailand, Miyanmar and China mountain areas and Koreans were examined by means of facial photography. The pictures of lateral facial view were taken by the fixed method. Then the length and width of auricles were measured by Phi-matrix software (version 1.1) on the scanned images. Helix ratio were also obtained by the s…
