Early-onset catatonia associated with SHANK3 mutations
The presence of catatonic symptoms from childhood associated with autistic traits leads us to consider that this singular entity fundamentally related to SHANK3 mutations could be a form of early-onset catatonia. Further case studies are needed to confirm our observations
The positive learning transfer from a musical play early-learning system® to young children’s linguistic and spatial skills
The benefits of musical play in cognitive development have recently received an upsurge of interest in the field of early childhood music education research. This study examines the positive learning transfer from a musical play early-learning system® to cognitive development. Specifically, we investigated the effects of early musically enriched multicultural play activities on linguistic and spatial skills once the children have reached school a…
Promoting narrative skills in 5- to 8-year-old French-speaking children
Previous studies of narrative development based on wordless picture stories indicate that before 7–8 years most children provide descriptive narratives with little inferential content such as explanations and attribution of mental states to the story characters. These components find greater expression in studies where children participated in conversations focused on the causes of the events. In the present study, 84 French-speaking children, fr…
Productive use of syntactic categories in typical young French children
In this corpus study, it is asked whether young children speaking European French build their early syntax around grammatical or lexical words. Specifically, the study examines the relationship of grammatical and lexical words in three types of syntactic structures (determiner–noun, pronoun–verb and subject pronoun–verb). The corpus included 315 samples from children aged 24–48 months, a period of rapid growth in grammatical morphology and syntax…
The role of linguistic and environmental factors on grammatical development in French children with cochlear implants
Notre…
Local and global characteristics in the development of morphosyntax by French children
Statistical analysis of morphosyntax acquisition in French children aged two to four can be conducted at two levels. At the local level, regularities in the immediate lexical context of a word are evaluated by computing the proportion of pairs of consecutive words (e.g., such as) produced by children which are also produced in the same order by adults. At the global level, regularities in collected samples of children's language production are ev…
How children build their morphosyntax
Early morphosyntax is very rich and uniform in young French-speaking children. The present study aims to give a thorough analysis of the morphosyntax produced at the outset of multi-word speech, with a classification of free language produced at 2;0 by 27 French-speaking children. The corpus was fully tagged by an automatic part-of-speech tagger. A classification performed with words taken in isolation shows a clear difference between the categor…
On the overgeneralization of the Intransitive/Transitive alternation in children's speech
This study investigates the cross-linguistic patterns of the overgeneralization of the Intransitive/ Transitive alternations found in children's speech and provides new evidence from findings based on the acquisition of French. The morphosyntactic characterization of such phenomenon in English and Hebrew child language is followed by a description of the morphosyntactic characterization of such alternation in adult French which relies on an accou…
Assessing the psycholinguistic abilities of young children
This report concerns three tools in an attempt to provide an objective and flexible means of screening speech and language between the ages of three and four years;1) a composite and standardized neuropsycho linguistic battery; 2) a psycholinguistic assessment in a conversational play session (a bath situation);3) a questionnaire addressed to parents
