Effects of Physical Environment on Experiential Value and Willingness to Pay a Premium in Fine Dining: The Role of Biophilic Design
Background and objective: The physical environment of fine dining restaurants plays an important role in shaping consumer experience. This study examines how specific physical environment attributes—ambient conditions, spatial layout, and decoration—differentially influence consumers’ willingness to pay a premium through the mediating roles of extrinsic and intrinsic experiential value. Methods: An online survey was conducted with 230 consumers wh…
Urban Neighborhoods with Greater Access but Less Use of Nearby Parks: Case of Los Angeles, California
We examine the relationship between urban residents’ access and use of nearby green spaces, recognizing that this link can vary across neighborhoods. Our study integrates park data from the Trust for Public Land and population mobility data from SafeGraph for the Los Angeles urban area. Using geographically weighted regression (GWR) and multiscale GWR (MGWR), we identify neighborhoods with high park accessibility but significantly lower usage. A …

Administrative Decision-Making with Generative AI: The Challenge of Epistemic Boundedness
This essay reframes administrative decision-making in the generative AI era by identifying how epistemic constraints rather than traditional information constraints shape administrative rationality. We introduce the concept of epistemic boundedness: the inability to verify the veracity and foundations of available information. Large language models (LLMs) exemplify this challenge through their opaque reasoning processes and tendency to produce pl…
Disparities of healthcare utilization in sexually transmitted diseases management: Focusing on racial/regional variances with U.S. national inpatient sample in 2016–2019

Methods: = 22,275) from 2016 to 2019. The sample's characteristics, the odds of an ER visit, and the association between an ER visit and healthcare utilization measured by hospital charges were examined b…
Preferring Local over Non-Local Parks? Green Space Visit Patterns by Urban Residents in Desert Cities, Arizona
Risk Factors Associated with Endoscopic Intervention in Pediatric Patients Presenting with Foreign Body Ingestion to the Emergency Department
Background/Objectives : Pediatric foreign body (FB) ingestion is a common clinical problem that frequently necessitates time-sensitive decisions regarding esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGDS). Although established high-risk criteria guide the indication for EGDS, coins-despite their high prevalence-are not uniformly classified as high-risk FBs. In this study, we aimed to delineate epidemiology and endoscopic outcomes and to identify predictors of EG…
The green space dilemma: Pathways to greening with and without gentrification
Green gentrification posits that urban greening initiatives (e.g., large new parks) can fuel gentrification. To help cities avoid this greening dilemma, this study examines the conditions under which urban greening did or did not promote neighborhood gentrification in Chicago from 2010 to 2020. Using Qualitative Comparative Analysis, we find that a large new park alone did not cause gentrification, but it did when located within areas experiencin…
Place Branding Viewed From the Perspective of the Poetics of Space: The Case of Aesop’s Signature Stores
This study argues for the aesthetics and values of a poetic space as a place branding strategy. Gaston Bachelard’s (1884–1962) poetic space refers to a happy place internalized by people, one where they can collectively achieve an aesthetic and emotional communion through imagination. Applying poetic space theory to place branding provides brand marketers with a powerful tool, as place branding offers an impression of the brand. This study thus s…

Comparison of McGrath Videolaryngoscope and Macintosh Laryngoscope in Children with Torticollis: Randomized Controlled Trial
We investigated the efficacy of the McGrath videolaryngoscope compared with the Macintosh laryngoscope in children with torticollis. Thirty children aged 1-10 years who underwent surgical release of torticollis were randomly assigned into the McGrath and Macintosh groups. Orotracheal intubation was performed by a skilled anesthesiologist. The primary outcome was the intubation time. The Cormack-Lehane grade, lifting force, intubation difficulty s…
Physical and Mental Health Factors Associated with Poor Nutrition in Elderly Cancer Survivors: Insights from a Nationwide Survey
Elderly cancer survivors (patients with any stage of cancer or a history of cancer) are precious members of our society and they can be easily found in various types of surveys. As is well known, good nutrition is important in elderly people suffering from cancer. Proper nutritional evaluation and intervention not only improves their quality of life but also helps them to receive adequate treatment, thereby prolonging individual survival and redu…
Physical and Psychological Factors Contributing to Incidental Falls in Older Adults Who Perceive Themselves as Unhealthy: A Cross-Sectional Study
Falls have become one of the common causes of morbidity and mortality in the elderly. Advanced age is a strong predictor of falls. Additionally, those who perceive themselves as unhealthy are more likely to suffer from incidental falls in accordance with aging. We aimed to compare individual, physical, and psychological factors between older adults with and without a fall history. Then, we tried to identify physical and psychological variables as…
Cheating in online gaming spreads through observation and victimization
Antisocial behavior can be contagious, spreading from individual to individual and rippling through social networks. Moreover, it can spread not only through third-party influence from observation, just like innovations or individual behavior do, but also through direct experience, via “pay-it-forward” retaliation. Here, we distinguish between the effects of observation and victimization for the contagion of antisocial behavior by analyzing large…
Anger Suppression and Rumination Sequentially Mediates the Effect of Emotional Labor in Korean Nurses
The degree of emotional labor in nurses has been associated with negative physical and psychological health indices. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between emotional labor and depressive and anxiety symptoms in nurses. Specifically, the study addressed the question of whether anger suppression and anger rumination sequentially mediated the relationship.
