Across recent decades, Madrid has seen a significant intensification of restaurant services propelled by the emergence of restaurant groups with strong brand identities. This study offers analysis of the spatial logics that inform the location strategies pursued by these groups, where their relationship with the city’s socioeconomic structure is interpreted through the theoretical framework of ‘foodification’. The methodological approach combines…
Music festivals in small and medium-sized Spanish cities: Between place dependency and spatial unboundedness, ongoing festivalization and processes of financialization

This marks a shift that some scholars argue is a societal phenomenon intertwined with changing consumer habits, social practices, emergent markets, creative city promotion policies and developing government policies. The focus on festivalization as an analytic tool for describing a process of adapting music …
Tourism as a way of mobilizing hope against neoliberal logic: Tourist‐activism in Rural Inland Destinations of the Global North
Faced with crises that have led to a decrease in tourism and weakened the narrative with respect to its benefits, tourim is now being proposed by neoliberals as a solution to rural problems. This commodification of new peripheries of pleasure opens up a new range of types of tourism, ostensibly more sustainable and responsible, but still tending to ignore idiosyncrasies of place and ways of life as well as any conflicts associated with the neocol…

Medium and Small Cities, Culture and the Economy of Culture. A Review of the Approach to the Case of Spain in Light of International Scientific Scholarship
While most published studies on the economy of culture present a clear bias in favor of large cities, a significant international bibliography has emerged in recent years that privileges the perspective of medium and small cities. Unfortunately, the case of Spain has been largely overlooked by these analyses; this text is intended to remedy that oversight. To that end, a bibliographic compilation has been undertaken of studies on the cultural eco…
