    Bo Kristian Holm•ARTICLE•Dansk Teologisk Tidsskrift•2023

This article presents a systematic-theological reading of the historical development of Luther’s theology of the Lord’s Supper. It is argued that a focus on the social dimension in Luther’s writing about the Lord’s Supper reveals a thread that goes through all the phases of Luther’s writings on the Lord’s Supper: From a clear focus on the social life in the congregation in 1519, over a focus on the Lord’s Supper as integrating the sinner in the n…

  • God’s Caring Vice-Regent

Bo Kristian Holm•ARTICLE•Toronto Journal of Theology•2021

This article centres on the role of the Lutheran confession in societal development in the Nordic countries, especially Denmark. Using the concept of social imaginaries, it argues that the Lutheran Reformation refined a monarchical ideology already existent in ancient Roman stoicism that both moved society toward absolutism and emphasized the government’s responsibility for social welfare. This thesis is documented by examples of royal ideology f…

  • Reformationens tøvende omfortolkning af kætterbegrebet

Open Access•Bo Kristian Holm, Søren Feldtfos Thomsen•ARTICLE•Religionsvidenskabeligt Tidsskrift•2012

  • Word - Gift - Being

    Bo Kristian Holm, Peter Widmann•BOOK•Word - Gift - Being•2009

Focusing on the relationship between justification, gift-economy and ontology, this volume addresses fundamental issues in contemporary Reformation theology with an impact on the understanding of creation theology, human passivity/activity, self-giving, the concept of excess, and generosity. This volume brings the discussion of the role of studies in exchanging gifts into a Lutheran context, offering necessary clarifications on Lutheran thinking …

  • Gabe und Geben bei Luther

Bo Kristian Holm•BOOK•Gabe und Geben Bei Luther•2006

The author uses the cultural anthropological understanding of an ‘economy of the gift’ (reciprocity) to show how in Martin Luther’s writings, especially between 1518 and 1522, his doctrine of justification cannot be formulated without the idea of a re-established mutuality between God and man. Luther’s newly-gained understanding of mutuality enables him to develop his positive understanding of the Christian person and for the frequent parallels h…
