  • Climate change risk perception in Europe

Open Access•Selim Jürgen Ergun, Zehra D Karadeniz et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2024

This study investigates the role of country-level and individual-level factors on climate change risk perception in 28 European countries. Based on the nature of the data and the research question, a multilevel ordered logit model is used. As individual observations are nested among countries, the data is hierarchical, justifying the use of a multilevel model. The analysis focuses on a dependent variable with ordered categories. Due to its inhere…

  • The effect of social roles, religiosity, and values on climate change concern

    Open Access•Selim Jürgen Ergun, M Fernanda Rivas•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2019•Cited by: 5•References: 7

There are several papers studying climate change concern, but the majority of them are West‐centric, and there are few studies for developing countries. Using a database from Pew Global and controlling for socio‐demographic variables, we analyze how values, social roles, religiosity, and political orientation affect climate change concern in Turkey. We find that social roles, religiosity, and values are important determinants. In particular, havi…

Citizens' attitudes are crucial in preventing or encouraging democratic weakening, specifically satisfaction with the functioning of the democratic system. We analyse the nexus between the rules and characteristics of the political system and satisfaction with democracy in Latin America. Using data from the 2015 Latinobarometer survey, we have estimated ordered multilevel logit models. We find that satisfaction is greater in countries that use a …

  • Income Redistribution and Public-Good Provision in a Diverse Society

Selim Jürgen Ergun•ARTICLE•Journal of Institutional and…•2011

I analyze the postelectoral coalition formation process in a two-dimensional political environment. The two dimensions are the degree of a proportional tax rate and the degree of a group-specific public good. Parties are office-motivated and care instrumentally about policy. I analyze when stable coalitions exist and obtain that for that to occur office benefits should exceed a certain level. I analyze how this critical level and the set of polic…
