  • Characterization and Selection of Mortar Samples for Radiocarbon Dating in the Framework of the Modis2 Intercomparison: Two Compared Procedures

Open Access•G Artioli, Serena Barone et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•References: 29

For several decades, many efforts have been dedicated to enhancing the accuracy of mortar radiocarbon dating and evaluating the reliability of the results concerning the typology of the examined specimens. Several assumptions that are fundamental for the application of the method may be in many cases not fulfilled, such as (a) complete primary limestone dissociation during calcination, (b) efficient separation of geogenic carbon contained in calc…

  • Evaluation of Sustainability Using Leed Rating Scales: The Bismayah New City in Baghdad, Iraq

Open Access•Mufeed Shok, Zahraa Al-Husseini et al.•ARTICLE•International Society for the…•2023

Traditional architecture adapts to the natural environment and local culture.Ornaments in traditional architecture usually to express the natural and cultural environment, but today the natural and cultural environment of the Banjar people has changed a lot. Some endemic flora is no longer found, and some cultural activities have also been abandoned. However, their forms and shapes are still imprinted on the architectural ornaments. Therefore, this …

  • Integrated Dating of the Construction and Restoration of the Modena Cathedral Vaults (Northern Italy): Preliminary Results

    Open Access•G Tirelli, S Lugli et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 20

After the last damaging earthquake in 2012, an anti-seismic reinforcement project of the cathedral of Modena was designed giving us the opportunity to investigate and date the building materials. Radiocarbon ( 14 C), optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), and thermoluminescence (TL) dating techniques were performed on the vaults with the aim to (1) clarify the construction timing, (2) define the history of the restorations, and (3) explore the …

  • Ceramic chronology by luminescence dating: How and When It Is Possible to Date Ceramic Artefacts

  • Detecting the NIR Fingerprint of Colors: The Characteristic Response of Modern Blue Pigments

    Open Access•Rossella Yivlialin, A Galli et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2019•Cited by: 1

Reflectance spectroscopy in the ultraviolet (UV), visible (Vis), and near infrared (NIR) range is widely applied to art studies for the characterization of paints and pigments, with the advantages of non-invasive techniques. Isolating and detecting the fingerprint of pigments, especially in the NIR range, is quite challenging, since the presence of vibrational transitions of the most common organic functional groups prevents to relate the optical…

  • The Giotto's workshop in the XXI century: Looking inside the "God the Father with Angels" gable

    Open Access•Marco Gargano, A Galli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2019•References: 15

  • Quaternary evolution of the intermontane Val d'Agri Basin, Southern Apennines

Open Access•Irene Zembo, Laura Panzeri et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2009

Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) enables the chronology of the late Pleistocene evolution for the Val d'Agri intermontane basin of Southern Apennines to be defined in the frame of Mediterranean geodynamic and climate changes. Quartz sand from braided floodplain and alluvial fan depositional systems was analyzed using the coarse-grained, single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) technique. The obtained optical ages are mostly consistent with o…
