Connecting everyday resistance to staying put in the context of climate change
Everyday resistance is an essential mechanism through which marginalized communities reclaim their agency and preserve their right to stay put. Drawing on ethnographic research in Guinea-Bissau, this paper shifts the focus from the threats posed by climate change to how vulnerability is created, sustained and resisted. In a context deeply marked by structural injustice and power imbalances, resistance emerges against the prevailing forces that un…

The mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between perceived overqualification, turnover intention and job performance among call center employees
The purpose of this paper is to examine two hypothetical models: one in which job satisfaction acts as a mediator of the effects of overqualification on turnover intention and performance, and another in which job satisfaction acts as a mediator of the effects of overqualification on performance. Data were collected from 318 call center employees in Portugal. The relationships were tested using a multiple regression hierarchy with PROCESS. As hyp…

Adapted Portuguese folk dance intervention for subacute rehabilitation post-stroke
Dance can be an innovative, well-accepted, and effective therapy for stroke survivors. The present protocol aims to assess the feasibility of adapted Portuguese folk dance as a post stroke rehabilitative activity. We will use a mixed-methods pilot study convenience sampling to recruit 16 stroke survivors with mild–moderate lower limb paresis from a rehabilitation center in Lisbon and Tagus Valley. In addition to usual care, participants will atte…
Voices of contention
This paper offers a fresh perspective on the predominant narrative that links climate change to migration. We review how this narrative is being used to promote securitization policies and to limit migration avenues. We propose a reinterpretation of this connection by drawing on its current critique and acknowledging the alternative conclusions that emerge from local perceptions of climate change. We explore human development perspectives to demo…
I was born here, I will die here’
This paper shows how coastal and island peoples of Guinea-Bissau continue to prefer staying put over migrating when faced with manifestations of climate change and environmental disrepair. This reaction contradicts widely held interpretations of climate migration, which emphasize anti-immigrant sentiments and border regimes. We examine how historically marginalized Bissau-Guineans respond to slow-onset climate and environmental events in the face…
