  • Building individual futures capacity through transformative futures learning

    Open Access•Laura Pouru-Mikkola, Markku Wilenius•ARTICLE•Futures•2021•Cited by: 9•References: 25

This article focuses on examining the parallels between the recent discussion on futures literacy as human capability and the longer tradition of futures education as a means to enhance the individual’s capacity to use the future. Open Access•Sofi Kurki, Markku Wilenius•ARTICLE•European Journal of Futures…•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 11

Modes of organising have an indirect relationship with the new key technologies as enablers of new forms of organisation. The effect is two-fold: first the emergent technologies bring more efficiency to traditional organising, while at the same time inspiring ideas about new ways to approach the everyday life of organisations. Secondly, the metaphors and models based on new technology are applied to building new forms of organisational interactio…

    Open Access•Markku Wilenius•ARTICLE•Futures•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 3

The article sets out to expose futurist Pentti Malaska (1934–2012) as a social thinker.2 His theory on social evolution where societies have developed from agricultural to industrial, and the currently emerging post-industrial service society, is explained. His idea of threefold society is discussed where each sector (culture, social life, economic life) is understood as domains of distinct principles. We also take a deep look into his list of ke…

    Open Access•Markku Wilenius•ARTICLE•International Sociology•1999•References: 14

One of the issues in recent sociological debate on the assessment of global environmental change (GEC) has been the question how to determine the relevant domain of sociological enquiry. In this article I try to provide an insight into this question by looking at some of the conditions which enable us to identify the formation and acceleration of GEC as a phenomenon that is deeply rooted in the social and political development of modernity. In di…
