  • Trauma-Informed Care and Posttraumatic Growth Among Bereaved Youth: A Pilot Study

Open Access•Irene Searles Mcclatchey•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2018

Although a fair amount has been written about posttraumatic stress disorder among bereaved children and adolescents, less has been written about posttraumatic growth (PTG) and its predictors among this population. This study examines predictors of PTG and the impact of trauma-informed care on PTG among bereaved youth. A preexperimental, pretest-posttest design was applied to measure PTG among bereaved children ( N = 32) before and after attending…

Open Access•Irene Searles Mcclatchey•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2017

Little is known about the experiences of widowed men with dependent children. With such limited knowledge it is not clear how mental health professionals can assist this population. The researcher us…

Method: A total of 105 participants completed standardized measures of posttraumatic growth and posttraumatic stress dis…

  • The Impact of Death Education on Fear of Death and Death Anxiety Among Human Services Students

Open Access•Irene Searles Mcclatchey, Steve King•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2015

Human services professionals will undoubtedly work with the dying and bereaved populations at one time or other. Yet, they are poorly prepared to do so since death education, that is, lessons about the human and emotional aspects of death, its implications, and subsequent bereavement issues, is often not part of their curriculum. This nonequivalent comparison group study (N = 86) examined death fear and death anxiety among human services students…

  • Traumatic and Complicated Grief Among Children: One or Two Constructs

Irene Searles Mcclatchey, Margaret Elizabeth Vonk et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2013•References: 3

The purpose of this study was to examine the concepts of traumatic and complicated grief among children. Some authors seemingly use the concepts interchangeably, whereas others make a distinction between the two. A sample of 240 mainly parentally bereaved children were administered the Extended Grief Inventory (EGI). Two confirmatory factor analyses were run to examine the EGI factor structure and to determine whether traumatic and complicated gr…
