  • Attentional characteristics in processing visual verbal emotional information among individuals with depression prone

Yutong Li, Yinxian Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2026

  • One Sentiment, Multiple Interpretations

    Open Access•Yinxian Zhang, Di Zhou•ARTICLE•Sociological Science•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 20

This study contrasts official and popular expressions of anti-Americanism in China by comparing narratives from People’s Daily and Zhihu between 2011 and 2022. Using computational and qualitative methods, we examined sentiment trends, topics, and opinions in official and popular discourses. We find that although both discourses have become increasingly negative toward the United States, they diverge significantly in specific expressions: official…

  • Tracking Ideological Changes in an Authoritarian State Using Retweeting Ties

    Open Access•Yinxian Zhang•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2025•References: 50

While public opinion and ideology can impact political outcomes in an authoritarian state, measuring and tracking its ideological change remains a challenge. This is largely due to data constraints in nondemocratic contexts, such as limited data on political participation and the scarcity of panel opinion surveys, which are usually costly and tightly controlled by the state. This study proposes a method that relies solely on retweeting ties to pr…

  • Impactful Covid-19 discoveries from China are neglected in the media

    Open Access•Yinxian Zhang•ARTICLE•Scientometrics•2023

Do the media and the scientific community often agree on what research is worth public attention? During the COVID-19 pandemic, I analyzed all COVID-related research articles ( n = 665) published in 13 world-leading medical and science journals. I found that the media attention an article receives is positively associated with its scientific impact—proxied by citation counts. However, given the same level of scientific impact, an article from Chi…

  • Passive Political Legitimacy

    Yinxian Zhang•ARTICLE•The China Journal•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 16

The Chinese government’s rhetoric and policies have become increasingly assertive in recent years, leading some observers abroad to see China as a threat to democracy and the international order. However, less attention has been devoted to the attitudes that Chinese people themselves hold toward democracy. How does the Chinese public view democracy in light of transformations occurring in both the domestic and international environments? This art…

  • Nationalism on Weibo

Open Access•Yinxian Zhang, Jiajun Liu et al.•ARTICLE•The China Quarterly•2018

It appears that nationalism has been on the rise in China in recent years, particularly among online communities. Scholars agree that the Chinese government is facing pressure from online nationalistic and pro-democracy forces; however, it is believed that of the two, nationalistic views are the more dominant. Online nationalism is believed to have pushed the Chinese government to be more aggressive in diplomacy. This study challenges this conven…
