Ubiquitous data-driven framework for traffic emission estimation and policy evaluation
Crowdsourced reviews reveal substantial disparities in public perceptions of parking
Due to increased reliance on private vehicles and growing travel demand, parking remains a longstanding urban challenge globally. Quantifying parking perceptions is paramount as it enables decision-makers to identify problematic areas and make informed decisions on parking management. This study introduces a cost-effective and widely accessible data source, crowdsourced online reviews, to investigate public perceptions of parking across the U.S. …
Evaluating the influence of environmental factors and route characteristics on leisure-oriented active travel
Toward satisfactory public accessibility
Characterizing human mobility and its impact on the spread of Covid-19 during extreme weather events
Analyzing public response to wildfires
Modeling shared e-micromobility as a label propagation process for detecting overlapping communities
Multi-crowdsourced data fusion for modeling link-level traffic resilience to adverse weather events
Complementary or Competing? Studying the Relationship between E-Scooter Sharing and Bikesharing in Austin, Texas
The correlation between e-scooter sharing (ESS) and docked bikesharing (DBS) remains ambiguous. This study compared usage patterns between the two modes in Austin, Texas, aiming to unveil their evolving relationship. To account for nonlinear effects, generalized additive mixed models were employed. The findings indicate that both ESS and DBS programs achieved success in densely populated urban areas, areas with younger and higher-income populatio…
Long-term exposure to ambient ozone at workplace is positively and non-linearly associated with incident hypertension and blood pressure
To our knowledge, this is the first cohort study in the general population that demonstrates the non-linear hypertensive effects of long-term O 3 exposure. The findings are particularly relevant for policymakers and researchers involved in ambient pollution and public health, supporting the integration of reduction of ambient O 3 into public health interventions
Health disparity in the spread of Covid-19
This study answers critically unaddressed questions about health disparities in the spread of COVID-19 by assessing factors that might explain why the spread is different in different groups
Examining spatiotemporal evolution of racial/ethnic disparities in human mobility and Covid-19 health outcomes
Examining factors associated with bike-and-ride (BnR) activities around metro stations in large-scale dockless bikesharing systems
Examining spatiotemporal changing patterns of bike-sharing usage during Covid-19 pandemic
Mobile device data reveal the dynamics in a positive relationship between human mobility and Covid-19 infections
Accurately estimating human mobility and gauging its relationship with virus transmission is critical for the control of COVID-19 spreading. Using mobile device location data of over 100 million monthly active samples, we compute origin–destination travel demand and aggregate mobility inflow at each US county from March 1 to June 9, 2020. Then, we quantify the change of mobility inflow across the nation and statistically model the time-varying re…
Revolution, Reform, and Status Inheritance
Do regime change and market reform disrupt patterns of intergenerational mobility? China's political trajectory is distinctive from that of other communist regimes in two ways. During its first three decades, the regime enforced unusually restrictive barriers to elite status inheritance. And during the subsequent market transition, unlike most of its counterparts, the Communist Party survived intact. Data from a multigeneration survey suggest tha…
