  • The joint modulation of language distance and task demands on the neural mechanisms underlying bilingual lexical processing

Yun Qi, Wenqi CAI et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2026

  • Referencing, Internalizing, or Activating Knowledge: A Comparative Analysis of Strategies for Enhancing LLM Performance in Cartography

Shuaiqing Wang, Li Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2026•References: 28

Large language models (LLMs) offer transformative potential for automated cartography, yet their effectiveness depends on their integration with specialized cartographic knowledge. Although strategies like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and prompt engineering are the prevailing approaches for knowledge augmentation, their comparative effectiveness in enhancing LLM performance in cartography remains underexplored. Based on a sp…

  • Automatic Reconstruction of 3D Building Models from ALS Point Clouds Based on Façade Geometry

Open Access•Tingting Zhao, Tao Xiong et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2025

Three-dimensional (3D) building models are essential for urban planning, spatial analysis, and virtual simulations. However, most reconstruction methods based on Airborne LiDAR Scanning (ALS) rely primarily on rooftop information, often resulting in distorted footprints and the omission of façade semantics such as windows and doors. To address these limitations, this study proposes an automatic 3D building reconstruction method driven by façade g…

  • Revealing Schematic Map Designs with Preservation of Relativity in Node Position and Segment Length in Existing Official Maps

Open Access•Peng Ti, Hao Wu et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2023

Schematic maps have widely been used for representing transport networks. In the schematization process, preserving the relative position of nodes and the relative length of segments are considered highly important for constructing spatial cognition. Some researchers have regarded these as general principles of automated schematization. However, in-depth investigations into the conversion of these general principles into specific schematic networ…

  • Influencing Pedestrians’ Route Choice Using Route Shape Simplification

Open Access•Peng Ti, Ruyu Dai et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2023

Pedestrians’ route choice is critical for several purposes, while deliberately changing map representations can influence map users’ route choice. Simplifying routes’ geometric shapes is one way to achieve this. However, the other geometric characteristics of routes (e.g., the relative distance of different routes, differences in initial orientation, the number of intersections, and the direction changes) also influence pedestrians’ route choice,…

  • An ANNs-Based Method for Automated Labelling of Schematic Metro Maps

Open Access•Tian Lan, Zhilin Li et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2022

Schematic maps are popular for representing transport networks. In the last two decades, some researchers have been working toward automated generation of network layouts (i.e., the network geometry of schematic maps), while automated labelling of schematic maps is not well considered. The descriptive-statistics-based labelling method, which models the labelling space by defining various station-based line relations in advance, has been specially…

  • Identifying Complex Junctions in a Road Network

Open Access•Jianting Yang, Kongyang Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2020

Automated generalization of road network data is of great concern to the map generalization community because of the importance of road data and the difficulty involved. Complex junctions are where roads meet and join in a complicated way and identifying them is a key issue in road network generalization. In addition to their structural complexity, complex junctions don’t have regular geometric boundary and their representation in spatial data is…

  • A Comprehensive Measurement of Progress toward Local SDGs with Geospatial Information: Methodology and Lessons Learned

Open Access•Jun Chen, Peng Shu et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2020

The UN’s 2030 Agenda defined 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to ensure the implementation of this global agenda, the UN proposed a systematic follow-up and review through indicator-based tracking and reporting of the progress with statistical and geospatial information toward SDGs at national, regional, and global levels. This has posed many technical and institutional challenges. Although international communities have devoted …

  • Urban Allometric Scaling Beneath Structural Fractality of Road Networks

Tian Lan, Zhilin Li et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 32

Allometry originally referred to the scaling relationship between the size of a body part and the size of the whole body when an organism grows. Gradually, researchers introduced it into urban studies. In existing urban studies, many allometric relations were discovered, especially those between urban population and other (physical or socioeconomic) quantities, such as urban area and gross domestic product (GDP). Recently, geometric fractal dimen…

  • How many samples are needed? An investigation of binary logistic regression for selective omission in a road network

Qi Zhou, Zhilin Li•ARTICLE•Cartography and Geographic…•2015

Selective omission in a road network (or road selection) means to retain more important roads, and it is a necessary operator to transform a road network at a large scale to that at a smaller scale. This study discusses the use of the supervised learning approach to road selection, and investigates how many samples are needed for a good performance of road selection. More precisely, the binary logistic regression is employed and three road networ…

  • Fractality and Self-Similarity in the Structure of Road Networks

Hong Zhang, Zhilin Li•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•2012•Cited by: 5•References: 37

Fractal geometry has been an important tool in multiple disciplines, but it is usually limited to the geometrical fractal: a shape made of parts similar to the whole in certain ways. Recently there has been increasing interest in structural fractality of complex networks (e.g., biological and Internet hyperlinks) for studying organizational principles and evolutionary rules. In this study, the structural fractality of road networks (a kind of com…

  • An Automated System for Multi-Scale Vegetation Mapping

    Lilian S C Pun‐Cheng, Lilian Pun-Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Cartographica The International…•2004

The geographical distribution of vegetation is commonly represented on maps. However, some map users require very detailed information down to species at individual levels, while others are satisfied with generalized data on a class or community. Representation of vegetation data at different levels of abstraction is required to satisfy the requirements of different applications. It is desirable to have an automated mapping system so that smaller…

  • Algebraic Models for Feature Displacement in the Generalization of Digital Map Data Using Morphological Techniques

Zhilin Li, Bo Su•ARTICLE•Cartographica The International…•1995

Feature displacement is one of the many operations (or operators) in map-data generalization. It has become a priority item on the research agenda. This paper describes some algebraic models (or mathematical models) for this operation. These models are based on the operators developed in mathematical morphology, which is a science dealing with form, shape, and structure of objects. Feature displacements can be classified into two groups, i.e., fe…
