  • Diversity of Finger Patterns in Iranian Populations

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2012•References: 2

Six Iranian populations have been analyzed for finger patterns, utilizing bilateral prints of 720 individuals. Bimanual and sex differences were frequently insignificant and non-significant. Interpopulational variation showed significant hetererogeneity among the populations studied. Distance analysis and constructed dendrograms, based on these six populations and other thirteen Iranian populations, provided separation between the populations for…

  • The diversity of the a-b ridge count and ridge breadth in Iranian populations

M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1994

Thirteen Iranian populations of diverse origin (3158 individuals) were analysed for the palmar a-b ridge count and ridge breadth. The distributions of these traits often didn't depart from normality for skewness but were frequently found leptokurtic for kurtosis. The correlation coefficients of the a-b ridge count commonly revealed significant bimanual differences. Sex differences were also found to be significant upon consideration of the left, …

  • Qualitative dermatoglyphic traits as measures of population distance

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1991•References: 22

Thirteen Iranian populations of diverse origin have been analyzed for qualitative dermatoglyphic features utilizing bilateral finger and palmar prints of 3,158 individuals. Bimanual differences were significant for some of the features examined, whereas sex differences were frequently nonsignificant. Interpopulational variation displayed significant heterogeneity for all of the features studied. Distance analysis and constructed dendrograms provi…

  • Diversity of palmar pattern ridge counts in Iranian populations

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1990•Cited by: 3•References: 16

We analyzed bilateral palmar prints of 3,158 individuals from 13 Iranian populations of diverse origins for palmar pattern ridge counts. Right palms did not show greater counts than the left in the majority of the populations studied. Highly significant interpopulational variation was observed for most palmar areas of both males and females. Dendrograms of males and combined sexes showed a good fit with the ethnohistoric background of the populat…

Significant bimanual and male/female differences were frequently found in these populations. Interpopulational variation displayed significant heterogeneity. Distance analysis and constructed dendrograms provided separation between the populations, but the dendrograms are not in agreement with the eth…

  • Dermatoglyphics of the Kazaks in Iran

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1986

Dermatoglyphic features of the Kazak, a Mongol tribe in Iran have been studied. C-line terminations showed an interesting feature viz frequencies of the proximal and absent modal types are very high compared to the other populations. Asymmetry and diversity of finger ridge counts from finger to finger showed that the Kazaks are characterized by more or less high heterogeneity and asymmetry. Means of the various palmar ridge counts and MLI are als…

  • Diversity in palmar pattern ridge counts among 12 Iranian populations

Open Access•M Sharif Kamali, Mahdis Kamali et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1986•Cited by: 6•References: 10

Bilateral palmar prints of 604 male individuals from 12 Iranian groups, six Mongoloid and six Caucasoid, have been analyzed for palmar pattern ridge counts (PPRC). Highly significant variation has been observed in the size of the palmar patterns in all the configurational areas among the Iranian groups. The distance analysis based on PPRCs differentiated the Iranian Mongoloid from the Iranian Caucasoid groups into distinct clusters. The pattern o…

  • Bioassay of Kinship in Populations of Middle Eastern Origin and Controls [and Comments and Replies]

    Newton E Morton, Ron S Kenett et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1982•Cited by: 6

Gene frequencies for 32 populations show 3 Jewish and 4 gentile clusters. From phenotype frequencies the estimate of inbreeding F is .0110 for populations in the Middle East and .0002 for other populations. Differentiation of populations in the region is small (F =.026) compared with that of the species as a whole (F =.146). Kinship between populations is appreciable within clusters but much less within the total Jewish and gentile groups (.004 a…
