Nutrition literacy and socio-demographic determinants among Chinese women of childbearing age
Background Nutrition literacy is critical for women of childbearing age because it may shape dietary behaviors before and during pregnancy. Evidence on domain-specific nutrition literacy and associated factors in China remains limited. Methods A cross-sectional online survey was conducted from August 20, 2024 to March 20, 2025, with dissemination supported by three tertiary hospitals in East, North, and Middle China. Women aged 18–49 years comple…
Application of team-based learning to ophthalmology in China
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore whether team-based learning (TBL) was more effective than traditional didactic lectures (TDLs) in improving medical students' problem-solving and study skills in the clinical course of ophthalmology. In addition, we were also concerned about Chinese students' satisfaction with TBL. Methods: Our study program involved 275 students of the 5-year clinical medicine program from Central South China …
Effects and Interaction of Meteorological Parameters on Influenza Incidence During 2010–2019 in Lanzhou, China
Background Influenza is a seasonal infectious disease, and meteorological parameters critically influence the incidence of influenza. However, the meteorological parameters linked to influenza occurrence in semi-arid areas are not studied in detail. This study aimed to clarify the impact of meteorological parameters on influenza incidence during 2010–2019 in Lanzhou. The results are expected to facilitate the optimization of influenza-related pub…
Analysis of DYS19 and DYS287 polymorphisms in the Han population and three other ethnic groups of Northeast China
The allelic distribution of the Y-chromosome specific microsatellite DYS19 in the Han population and in the Daur, Oroqen and Ewenki ethnic groups (Northeast China) was analyzed by PCR and denatured polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The allelic distribution in the Han population group is as follows: A = 2.90%, B = 26.09%, C = 26.09%, D = 29.98%, E = 15.94%. This allelic distribution differs statistically significant from that observed in the thr…
Analysis of polymorphic mitochondrial DNA in the Han population and three other ethnic groups of Northeast China
By means of the PCR-RFLP technique the polymorphism of a 465 fragment of mtDNA D loop was analyzed in 36 individuals of the Northeast Han, 30 individuals of the Daur, 32 individuals of the Oroqen and 30 individuals of the Ewenki. All these individuals were randomly selected and are healthy. 27 restriction patterns were obtained by assaying the RFLP fragments of the mtDNA D loop. The mean nucleid acid substitute frequencies at each site are the fo…
Distribution of a common methylenetetrahydrofolate mutation in six Chinese population groups
The distribution of the C677T polymorphism was analyzed by the PCR-RFLP technique in the Northeast Han, the Oroqen, the Ewenki, the Daur as well as in Koreans and Mongolians. The results were compared with each other. They revealed that the frequencies of the T allele are quite different (17-47%) among the tested groups and are much higher in Chinese population groups than in others.
