Colonial shadows
Scrutinizes the core-periphery cultural imperialism model by examining the relations of media flows in Sudan. Ethnographic fieldwork conducted from 2018 to 2023 on Sudanese consumption of film, television, and music. Of particular interest is a hierarchy of cultural flows that results in cultural saturation, thereby undercutting classical theoretical assumptions. American media is offered in greater quantities, but is primarily understood as dist…
The strength of adult community education as a professional field in aid-receiving countries
Community education is a form of organized adult learning focused on locally shared social, economic, and environmental goals with a long history in many countries around the world. This mixed-methods study proposes and tests a model to identify factors influencing the global development of professional training and research in community education, particularly in low-and-moderate-income, foreign aid-receiving countries. A quantitative analysis o…
Research on Sustainable Community-Based Conservation of the Last 150 Wild Yangtze Alligators
Due to the cultural belief in dragon, indigenous communities living with the last 150 wild Yangtze Alligators spontaneously provide alligators with physical and emotional care. Being excluded from their ecological systems by policies launched for the protected zones and nature reserves as well as by outside intruders, indigenous residents always find themselves victims of conservation projects. This article analyzes the harm done by teacher burnout, defines its causes, and suggests…
The American Moon Is No Rounder
I returned to Beijing half a year ago after concluding my work in the United States. Every time friends or relatives ask about my impression, I invariably say that the United States is more tu [rustic, unfashionable—Trans.] than China in many respects. Most of them do not believe me and think I am deliberately trying to say something sensational. I can understand them. Actually, I would not believe the United States to be tu if I had not seen it …
Analysis of the Social Gender Culture in Children's Games
Society's gender culture provides abundant sources of imitation for children's games, and children's games, in turn, reflect the gender culture of a given society. While playing games, children both blend in with and oppose the society's gender culture and, in the course of such blending and opposition, complete the socialization of their gender roles. However, while bringing about the socialization of children's gender roles, the social gender c…

The allelic distribution of the Y-chromosome specific microsatellite DYS19 in the Han population and in the Daur, Oroqen and Ewenki ethnic groups (Northeast China) was analyzed by PCR and denatured polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The allelic distribution in the Han population group is as follows: A = 2.90%, B = 26.09%, C = 26.09%, D = 29.98%, E = 15.94%. This allelic distribution differs statistically significant from that observed in the thr…
From Masses to Audience
This article examines the historical trajectory and significance of the conceptual change from ''masses'' to ''audience'' in China's media reform. This change eroded Mao's ''Party-masses model'' of propaganda and its prescribed political and ideological relationship between the press and readers in both the discursive and practice domains of Chinese journalism. In journalistic discourse, the de-politicized conception of the audience as a new medi…
