  • A six decades long follow-up on body size in adolescents from Zagreb, Croatia (1951–2010)

Open Access•Matea Zajc Petranović, Željka Tomas et al.•ARTICLE•Economics & Human Biology•2013

  • Qualitative dermatoglyphic traits in monozygotic and dizygotic twins of Albanian population in Kosovo

    Open Access•Gazmend Temaj, T Škarić-Jurić et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2012

  • Age trends in prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in Roma minority population of Croatia

    Open Access•Hrvojka Marija Zeljko, Tatjana Škarić-Jurić et al.•ARTICLE•Economics & Human Biology•2012

  • A detection of microevolutionary changes by the analysis of qualitative dermatoglyphic traits: An example of Albanians from Kosovo

Gazmend Temaj, Matea Zajc Petranović et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2012

In this study we analyzed the qualitative dermatoglyphic traits in the Albanians from three Kosovo distinct regions. We aimed to detect possible microevolutionary changes, which could have happened as a consequence of geographical and cultural isolation. The dermatoglyphic traits were analyzed for total 641 Albanians of both sexes. The analysis included 4 variables on fingers, 8 on palms and terminations of A, B, C, D and T main-lines. The differ…

  • The Quantitative Dermatoglyphic Traits in Three Population Groups of Albanians from Kosovo

    Open Access•Gazmend Temaj, Temaj Gazmend et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2010•References: 1

The quantitative dermatoglyphic traits from three population groups of Albanians from Kosovo have been analyzed. The first group consists of the population from the Dukagjini valley (106 males and 106 females), the second group encompasses the people living in the Kosovo plain (103 males and 110 females), and the third group lives in the valley of the South Morava River (108 males and 108 females). From the results of the present study, we can co…

  • Latent structure of dermatoglyphs in the population of Selška Valley

    Open Access•Jasna Miličić, Maruška Vidovič•ARTICLE•HOMO•2005

  • Latent structure of dermatoglyphics in gastric cancer patients

    Open Access•Jasna Miličić, Gordana Živanović-Posilović•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2005•References: 1

Gastric cancer is a very common malignant disease, which etiology is still unknown. It is believed that it is caused by a joint activity of both genetic and environmental factors. Gastric cancer between relatives in some families is almost four times higher and in connection with truncating mutations in the E-cadherin gene. The Helicobacter pylori are also established carcinogen and this infection increases the cancer risk by about 5 times. Digit…

  • Dermatoglyphs of the population from the island of Rab (Croatia)

    Open Access•Jasna Miličić, A Ivicević•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2005•References: 2

As a part of multidisciplinary anthropological research of population structure on Croatian island of Rab, finger and palm prints from 548 inhabitants (225 males and 323 females) of six villages on Rab were collected and their qualitative dermatoglyphic traits analysed. We calculated frequencies of patterns (whorls, loops and arches) on fingers, frequencies of patterns in the interdigital areas, Thenar and Hypothenar of the palms and frequencies …

  • Sets of complementary phenotypic relationships across five isolated populations: Traces of expression of different gene complexes

Open Access•Igor Rudan, Pavao Rudan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1999•References: 2

The aim of this study is to search for certain repeating phenotypic patterns, i.e. sets of complementary relationships across five isolated populations, which may represent the traces of expression of different genes or gene complexes. The study was conducted among isolates of five island populations of eastern Adriatic, Croatia, and the data were collected between 1979 and 1990. Selected phenotypic characteristics included measures of biological…

  • Dermatoglyphic analysis of different types of bronchopulmonary carcinoma

    Open Access•Jasna Miličić, Radomir Pavićević•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1998•Cited by: 1•References: 1

This research was supported by the Ministry for Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia, under the title “Anthropological investigations of the Population Structure of Croatia” (Project: 01960101). In this investigation of etiology of carcinoma the discriminant analysis and Mahalonobis D2 biological distance was carried out on the sample of a group of 301 patients with four different histological types of bronchopulmonary carcinoma and …

  • Morphological variation and population structure on the island of Korčula, Yugoslavia

    Open Access•Nina Smolej‐Narančić, N Smolej-Narancic et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1989

A comparison of head and body morphology on the ecologically uniform island of Korčula provides a good example of the balance that occurs in microevolution between selective pressures toward homogenization and selective inertia toward heterogeneity. thirty-eight measurements were made from a sample of 471 males and 526 females. Head variables, being more eco-stable than body variables, remain relatively more different between two distinct populat…

  • Isolation by distance in Middle Dalmatia—Yugoslavia

Open Access•Pavao Rudan, Diana Šimić et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1987•Cited by: 8•References: 27

Parameters of Malécot's isolation‐by‐distance model are estimated for biological (anthropometric head and body dimensions, morphometric dimensions of metacarpal bones, quantitative and qualitative dermatoglyphic traits, and physiological/cardiorespiratory/variables) and linguistic distances and migrational kinship on the island of Korčula and the Pelješac peninsula in Middle Dalmatia, Croatia, Yugoslavia. Resulting parameters and the fit of the m…
