  • Electrophoretic analysis of mammalian hair keratins

    Marcella Folin, Eva Contiero•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1996

Keratins extracted from the hair of several mammals were characterized by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and isoelectric focusing (IEF). By SDS-PAGE, most differences between species were detected in the position and intensity of polypeptide bands with MW in the range 30-10 KDa (high sulphur keratins, hair matrix proteins, HMP). By IEF, differences were found in the intensity of polypeptide bands in the acid…

  • Electrophoretic analysis of human hair keratins

    Marcella Folin, Eva Contiero•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1995

Non S-carboxymethylated human keratins, extracted from the hair of individuals from 3 Italian families, were characterized by one-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and isoelectric focusing (IEF), after the separation of hair fibrous proteins (HFP) and hair matrix proteins (HMP) by gel filtration chromatography. By SDS-PAGE, HFP were separated into 3 polypeptide bands with apparent molecular weight (M…

  • Relationship between subcutaneous fat distribution and serum lipids and blood pressures in italian men

Open Access•Marcella Folin, Eva Contiero•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1994

The associations of an index of centripetal adipose tissue distribution, based on skinfold thicknesses, with levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL‐cholesterol, LDL‐cholesterol, blood pressures, and the body mass index (BMI) were analyzed in 197 male blood donors, 20–59 years of age, who were asymptomatic of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Serum lipid variables were correlated with the BMI independently of the index of centripetal a…

  • Serum lipids and lipoproteins associations with AB0 blood groups

Eva Contiero, Giselda Emanuela Chinello et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1994

In the present study, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations were evaluated in 393 Italian male blood donors aged from 20 to 59 years and the association between these variables and ABO blood groups was examined. Through multiple linear regression we found that the variance in serum variable concentrations was significantly influenced by variance in the other serum variables, while lipid and lipoprotei…

  • Isoelectric focusing of human head hair keratins from various racial groups

    Open Access•Eva Contiero, V Fabrizi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1993•References: 1

Isoelectric focusing of extracted keratin not S-carboxymethylated followed by silver staining was used in this study with the attempt to identify head hair keratins from different racial groups: Guatuso and Caribbean (Costa Rica, America), Balanta (Guinea-Bissau, Africa) and Sardinian (Italy, Europe). Morphological analysis of hair and quantitation of solubilized total proteins were also performed. Keratins extracted from hair gave similar IEF pa…

  • An application of isoelectric focusing to non-human primates hair Keratin

    Open Access•Marcella Folin, P Zanella et al.•ARTICLE•Human Evolution•1993

  • Isoelectric focusing of human head hair proteins. Preliminary research

    Open Access•Marcella Folin, Adriana Cau•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1990•Cited by: 1

The examination of human hair keratin to obtain genetic information, which may be useful also in forensic sciences, has been carried out with the use of isoelectrophoretic procedure obtaining considerable evidence for the existence of specific-species patterns. In this paper the keratins extracted from hairs of 280 subjects belonging to Sardinian people (113 males, 167 females, aged from 1 to 89, belonging to 52 families) were analyzed using IEF …

  • Trace-element analysis of Egyptian mummy hair by x-ray fluorescence spectrometry

Open Access•Pier Paolo Parnigotto, Marcella Folin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•1982•References: 18
