Schools’ Strengths and Areas for Improvement: Perspectives From External Evaluation Reports
In the context of schools’ growing autonomy, external evaluation mechanisms, including External Evaluation of Schools (EES), are increasingly central to educational policies. This paper is based on the documentary analysis of all reports of the third cycle of EES in Portugal (77 reports), focusing on two of the sections of those reports—the strengths and areas for improvement identified in them. The analysis intends to uncover the areas EES is cu…
HBM4EU Occupational Biomonitoring Study on e-Waste—Study Protocol
Workers involved in the processing of electronic waste (e-waste) are potentially exposed to toxic chemicals. If exposure occurs, this may result in uptake and potential adverse health effects. Thus, exposure surveillance is an important requirement for health risk management and prevention of occupational disease. Human biomonitoring by measurement of specific biomarkers in body fluids is considered as an effective method of exposure surveillance…

Are Opportunities Being Missed? Burden of HIV, STI and TB, and Unawareness of HIV among African Migrants
Sub-Saharan African migrants (SSAMs) have been disproportionately affected by infectious disease burden. We aimed to identify correlates of HIV, past sexually transmitted infection (STI) and past Tuberculosis infection (TB), as well as examine HIV seropositivity unawareness and testing history among SSAMs. A venue-based sample of 790 SSAMs completed a cross-sectional biobehavioral survey on sexual practices, HIV testing and self-reported infectio…

Results revealed that mean BMD differences among groups are non-significant, suggesting that a strict reproductive interpretation of premature bone loss in young women from archaeological contexts is not sustained by empirical evidence. Bone mass in young women from archaeological sites should be interpreted as a complex trait stemming from the interplay between reproductive factors, genetics, nutrition, physical activity, and ag…
