  • Clitic doubling and pure agreement person features

Open Access•Ricardo Machado Rocha, J Manjarres Ramos et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudos da Linguagem•2016

In this paper, we analyze clitic doubling constructions in dialectal non-standard Brazilian Portuguese. Within the Minimalism Framework, we explain very peculiar aspects of the doubled structures in this language, namely the fact that they occur only for 1st and 2nd person pronouns and that they co-vary with single clitic structures and single strong pronoun structures. Our approach assumes that the clitics me and te are hosted by a dedicated fun…

  • Brazilian Portuguese lá in the CP-domain

Open Access•Bruna Karla Pereira, J Manjarres Ramos et al.•ARTICLE•Revista da ABRALIN•2013

This paper aims at investigating Brazilian Portuguese ‘lá’ (‘there’) in structures with rhetorical question, imperative, directive, emphatic assertion, and predicative. We argue that, in these constructions, ‘lá’ is merged in the specifier of FocusP and ForceP in the CP- cartography. This proposal is based both in the F-Spec Theory (CINQUE, 1999) and in the cartographic project (RIZZI, 1997; CINQUE & RIZZI, 2008). The former claims that AdvPs are…

  • Réplica a Petersen (2008)

This paper reports the generativist research developed in Brazil, from the standard theory to the Minimalist approach (Chomsky 1995), leaving out works in language aquisition, which are reported in Kato (1999).It contains three sections: I

  • Avaliação de dialetos brasileiros

Open Access•J Manjarres Ramos, Jânia Ramos•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudos da Linguagem•1997

This paper presents scores of attitude tests applied in five Brazilian cities: Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, João Pessoa and Porto Alegre. The results made possible the identification of a narrow relationship between self-confidence and cultural identity: the more people in a city are aware of the difference between their dialect and the dialect used by the media the proudes they are of their accent. It is exactly this accent whi…
