  • How to measure gender bias in machine translation: Real-world oriented machine translators, multiple reference points

    Open Access•Anna Farkas, Renáta Németh•ARTICLE•Social Sciences & Humanities Open•2022

In this paper—as a case study—we present a systematic study of gender bias in machine translation with Google Translate. We translated sentences containing names of occupations from Hungarian, a language with gender-neutral pronouns, into English. Our aim was to present a fair measure for bias by comparing the translations to a real-world oriented non-biased machine translator. • Secular growth trend characteristics of the body structure in Hungarian athlete boys

    Anna Farkas, Márta Szmodis•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2022

are analyzed and compared to that of the reference values of the Hungarian National Growth Study I and II (HNGS I - 1980's, Eiben et al. 1991; HNGS II - 2003-2006, Bodzsár & Zsákai 2007). The individual data were collected in Budapest (capital) basketball club boys aged 10-15 years (N = 1376). Body measurements were taken by the first author by the request of coaches and parents. Secular trend was characterized by the changes in some of the measu…

  • The Relationship between Body Fat Percentage and Some Anthropometric and Physical Fitness Characteristics in Pre- and Peripubertal Boys

Open Access•Márta Szmodis, Iván Szmodis et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The main aim of this study was to compare anthropometric and physical fitness indicators of boys of the same chronical age but with different fat percentages. Subjects were Hungarian boys aged 9−13 years ( N = 6919). Anthropometry was measured according the guidelines of the International Biological Program. Relative body fat was estimated by Drinkwater−Ross's method (1980); Conrad's growth type of physique was also estimated (1963). Physical fit…

  • Reference data for ultrasound bone characteristics in Hungarian children aged 7–19 years

Open Access•Márta Szmodis, Annamaria Zsakai et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2017

Changes in the bone parameters among 7-19-year-old Hungarian children depended on age, anthropometric dimensions and the level of PA. The normative data could be used for monitoring QUS bone parameters in children, leading to more effective interventions for healthy bones
