  • The resistome bridge between livestock and workers

Open Access•Silvia Vivarelli, Claudia De Francesco et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a critical threat to global health, driven by the extensive use of antibiotics in both human medicine and livestock production. In the context of the One Health framework, this review investigates the role of the gut microbiome and resistome, which represents the collection of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), within livestock and among occupationally exposed workers. Intensive farming practices often inv…

  • Mapping Biological Risks Related to Necropsy Activities

Open Access•Paola Tomao, Raffaele La Russa et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Nowadays only a few studies on biological and environmental risk among healthcare workers are available in literature. The present study aims to assess the health operator's risk of contact with microorganisms during necropsy activities, to evaluate the efficiency of current protections, to identify possible new sources of contact, and to point out possible preventive measures. In addition, considering the current pandemic scenario, the risk of t…

  • Red Cell Enzyme Polymorphisms in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Northeast Italy)

Maria Fuciarelli, Maria Luisa Romiti et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2000

Seven erythrocyte enzyme polymorphisms (ACP1, ADA, ESD, GLO1, PGD, PGM1 and PGM2) were investigated in a sample of 673 unrelated adult individuals from Friuli Venezia Giulia (or Friuli) and Istria. The gene frequencies found in the four provincial samples of Friuli and Istria fall within the range previously reported for Italy, showing a genetic homogeneity among the considered samples. However, comparisons with data from ex-Yugoslavian samples--…

  • Distribution of some erythrocyte enzyme polymorphisms in Emilia Romagna (Northern Italy)

Maria Fuciarelli, Emilia Paba et al.•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1995

In the last decades erythrocyte and serum genetic polymorphisms have been extensively analysed in many Italian population samples (a wide and up-to-date review of data in literature was published in 1989 by Piazza et al.). In spite of this, some geographical areas need further research and, in order to contribute to filling these gaps, we started a wide survey in Italy some years ago using the most polymorphic erythrocyte and serum markers. Many …
