  • Bitcoin and the anthropology-economics divide

    Open Access•Natalie Smolenski•ARTICLE•Anthropology Today•2025•References: 5

This guest editorial argues for renewed intellectual engagement between anthropology and economics, two disciplines that became estranged during 20th-century debates over human motivation and cooperation. With anthropologists largely rejecting economic theories following the formalist-substantivist controversy, this 'disciplinary divorce' has impoverished anthropological analysis by limiting available theoretical tools. • The Future of Cultural Anthropology

    Natalie Smolenski•PREPRINT•2016

Cannibal Metaphysics*, by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, raisesincontrovertibly the question of what cultural anthropology is—and what itshould be. De Castro places his combative cultural politics at the centerof the theory he builds; his declared cultural enemies are Westernmodernity and science—more broadly, any "mononaturalist" episteme whichposits a shared, objectively knowable world. In opposition to these, headvances a theory of "perspectivism…

  • National-European Theology

    Open Access•Natalie Smolenski•ARTICLE•East European Politics and…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 3

In this way, it remedies some Cathol…

  • The Father Lemański Affair

Natalie Smolenski•ARTICLE•Journal of Religion in Europe•2014

Under the People’s Republic of Poland, the Polish clergy often assumed the power to speak on behalf of ‘its’ laity. However, the Church’s foray into democratic politics in the 1990s opened up a profound moral and ideological divide between itself and many Poles who now reject the Church’s institutional pronouncements as immoral and nonrepresentative. This article compares two paradigms of resistance to oppressive institutions by people affiliated…
