Measuring the Quadruple Helix in social media: A case study of university–industry collaboration
Despite the increasing popularity of the Quadruple Helix model in innovation studies, the model has suffered from a lack of robust measurements. This article contributes by proposing new measurements and social media data as the new empirical source of evaluation. We argue that social media data contain ample evidence of interactions within and across the Quadruple Helix and propose measurements using topic modelling and network analysis, well-es…
Open e-learning platforms and the design–reality gap: An affordance theory perspective
Purpose The dropout rates of open e-learning platforms are often cited as high as 97%, with many users discontinuing their use after initial acceptance. This study aims to explore this anomaly through the lens of affordances theory, revealing design–reality gaps between users' diverse goals and the possibilities for action provided by an open IT artefact. Design/methodology/approach A six-month case study was undertaken to investigate the design …
The rejection of innovations? Rethinking technology diffusion and the non-use of smart energy services in Finland
Everyday distinction and omnivorous orientation: An analysis of food choice, attitudinal dispositions and social background
Associations between meal complexity and social context in four Nordic countries
Contemporary eating is often portrayed by images of snacking, solitary grazing, disintegration of sociability, demise of family meals, and increasingly irregular eating patterns -what Claude Fischler has famously described as gastroanomy. Inspired by the concept of eating system, this article contributes to the discussion about the ongoing changes by examining the relation between meal complexity, sociability and the duration of meals in contempo…
Explorations in cross-national comparison of food practices
Cultural map of Finland 2007: Analysing cultural differences using multiple correspondence analysis
This paper explores the patterns of cultural consumption in Finland using data collected in 2007 from a randomly selected sample of 3,000 persons. This is an explanatory study employing Multiple Correspondence Analysis as a method to map the cultural consumption patterns in Finland. The paper refers to a number of previous studies addressing the same issue in Denmark and particularly the UK in an attempt to place the results within a comparison f…
Sport and social class: The case of Finland
Sports have often been neglected in the research on taste and cultural consumption. This article investigates lifestyle choices in the area of sports, with particular focus on the differences that can be drawn from occupational class and other background variables. Based on nationally representative survey data from Finland, participation in sports and sports spectatorship are examined. The main findings suggest that there are divisions between t…
