  • Count Muravyov-Amursky and Transbaikalia

Open Access•Alexey V Postnikov, Mikhail V Konstantinov et al.•ARTICLE•The Bulletin of Irkutsk State…•2024

Governor-General of Eastern Siberia N. N. Muravyov proposed to focus on solving continental problems, leaving Alaska to America. He developed a plan for the development of the Amur, choosing Transbaikalia as a springboard for solving socio-political and economic problems, where the Trans-Baikal Region was created with the center in Chita with the statute of the city, the TransBaikal Cossack army, the registration of peasants to factories was canc…

  • History of a Geopolitical Choice of the Russian Empire: The Cession of Russian American Overseas Possessions and the Final Consolidation of Russian Territories in the Amur Region and Primorye (Maritim…

    Open Access•Alexey V Postnikov, Mikhail V Konstantinov•ARTICLE•Crossroads•2022

This article analyses the cession of Russian America (Alaska) to the United States (1867), the role of American geopolitical plans and dreams, and Nikolay Muravyov-Amursky’s strategic decision to concentrate Russia’s resources on its continental regions. He considered Russia’s main task to be the development of the Amur and its consolidation at its mouth and on the Pacific Ocean coast to head off the clear aspirations of Britain and France. The E…

    Open Access•Sergey Vasiliev, E V Veselovskaya et al.•ARTICLE•Sibirskie istoricheskie…•2018

  • Last Glacial Maximum Human Occupation of the Transbaikal, Siberia

    I Buvit, Karisa Terry et al.•ARTICLE•PaleoAmerica•2015•Cited by: 8•References: 6

We analyze the late Pleistocene radiocarbon chronology of the Transbaikal region of Siberia and conclude that humans inhabited the area during parts of the Last Glacial Maximum, but completely abandoned it between 24,800 and 22,800 cal yr BP. Moreover, the distinct contrast between non-microblade producing sites and those with microblades on either side of the radiocarbon gap suggests that the new technology arrived with recolonization

  • The alluvial history and sedimentary record of the Priiskovoe site and its place in the Paleolithic prehistory of Siberia

Open Access•I Buvit, Karisa Terry et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2011•References: 12

The Priiskovoe site in the Transbaikal Region of Siberia has long been considered one of the most ancient examples of the area's Middle Paleolithic. Priiskovoe and many other regional Paleolithic sites are part of a sequence of alluvial sediments found on or close to valley floor environments. We present several key pieces of evidence to suggest that Priiskovoe and its chipped‐stone assemblage are Upper Paleolithic in age. We examine the depositi…

  • Geoarchaeological investigations at Studenoe, an Upper Paleolithic site in the Transbaikal Region, Russia

    Open Access•I Buvit, Michael R Waters et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2003•Cited by: 6•References: 4

In 1998, geoarchaeological research was carried out at the Upper Paleolithic site of Studenoe in the Transbaikal Region of Russia. The site is divided into three loci situated on two terraces overlooking the Chikoi River. Alluvial sediments beneath the oldest terrace (T 2 ) consist of two depositional units. Radiocarbon ages indicate that aggradation of the T 2 fill began before 18,000 yr B.P. Alluvial sediments beneath the lower terrace (T 1 ) r…

  • Studenoe-2 and the origins of microblade technologies in the Transbaikal, Siberia

    Open Access•T Goebel, Michael R Waters et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2000•Cited by: 38•References: 13

Analysis and dating of new Upper Palaeolithic sites suggest that microblades emerged in the Transbaikal after 18,000 years ago. These findings encourage review of earlier assertions that such technologies developed in northeast Asia prior to the last glacial maximum
