From College-to-Work
This article aims to identify which factors enable the mutual adjustment of top managers of small enterprises (SEs), frequently their owners, and interns (young college graduates) in their first work experiences. Using latent segment models and data obtained from an archive database of an internship program with complete information on both interns and SEs top managers (n = 102), the categories of mutual adjustment between interns and SEs top man…
Policy Effects on the Quality of Public Health Care
In this paper, public health care administration issues are reviewed and public hospital patients’ views on quality of health care are empirically tested. Hospital patients’ views on service quality were assessed through a questionnaire to estimate a global customer satisfaction measure. We argue that customer satisfaction should be …
Latent Class Models In Action
Coming of (Old) Age in the Digital Age
Most developed countries are in the midst of two significant societal trends: the first is an aging population; the second is the uptake of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by large segments of society. But research shows a strong association between age and the so-called digital divide: older adults are less likely to use ICT when compared to other age groups. If we consider the social affordances of the Internet and the online m…
Clustering in the field of social sciences
Clustering seeks to identify a finite set of clusters to describe data. Cluster analysis is partitioning similar objects into meaningful classes, when both the number of classes and their composition are to be determined. Nowadays, we often see illustrations concerning the use of latent class models (LCM) in the field of cluster analysis. They provide a useful probabilistic/statistical method for grouping observations into clusters. In this appro…
