  • Some reflections on autobiography as an interpretative tool in the history of education

    Margaret Southwell, Myriam Southwell•ARTICLE•Paedagogica Historica•2022

In contrast to more classical historiographical-educational currents, constituted by narratives in which a pristine will that embodied equally pristine pedagogical ideals prevailed, the new and reinforced versions of history highlight the ambiguous and contradictory character of political-pedagogical discourses. The narratives made available here do not refer to biographies of destiny, monolithic and finished; rather, they propose visions where l…

  • Views on local space and identities

    Margaret Southwell, Myriam Southwell•ARTICLE•Paedagogica Historica•2021

The 1920s decade was extremely rich in terms of processes and problems of singular relevance and was also a prolific decade in terms of debates and generation of new proposals. The social climate of the postwar period put into crisis the most rationalist precepts installed by nineteenth-century liberalism and favoured the inclusion of forms of knowledge linked to the spiritual and sensitivity, beyond the pre-eminence of reason. To explore some of…

The central theme of the Conference – also covered in this issue – was…

  • Discurso Y Metáfora

    Open Access•Margaret Southwell, Myriam Southwell•ARTICLE•Cadernos CEDES•2018

  • Schooling and governance

    Margaret Southwell, Myriam Southwell•ARTICLE•Paedagogica Historica•2012

The consolidation of the Argentine Federal Government by the 1870s aimed to modernise local society, establish state institutions and reach political stabilisation. Building a modern schooling system articulated both utopia and bureaucracy by establishing the use of knowledge as an instrument of social intervention, vindicating and legitimising the concept of rational control. This approach established the formal and material bases for the consti…
