  • The Role of Time in Developing Place Meanings

David Smaldone, Charles Harris et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Leisure Research•2008•Cited by: 14•References: 11

Person-place models suggest that the bonds between individuals and places are complex and multidimensional. While a number of researchers and writers have argued that length of association is an important variable affecting connections to place, little empirical data exists to confirm this hypothesis, and even less is known about how and why time is involved in forming those connections. This study used a mixed methods approach to investigate tim…

    Kenneth S Cohen, Kenneth Cohen et al.•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•2007•Cited by: 2•References: 2

Methamphetamine production is highly toxic, and the disposal of this waste on forestlands represents a serious and growing environmental crime in the United States. This article examines thr…

  • A Human Dimensions Inquiry in Watershed Analysis

    K J McGuire, Kevin Mcguire et al.•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•2006•References: 4

To understand the human dimension of a watershed from the points of view of its residents, qualitative data were collected using an approach that included both individual interviews and group discussions designed to include a full range of watershed stakeholders. A set of interrelated legitimacy patterns were apparent in the data, ranging from perceptions of exclusion and alienation to more extreme manifestations such as constitutionalist challen…

  • Differentiating motivations of guided versus unguided fly anglers

Michael V Wright, Nick Sanyal•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•1998

Motivations, characteristics, and fishing involvement of guided and unguided fly anglers were examined in southwestern Montana. Recent growth in fly fishing has created crowding and conflict, while fishery managers have little information on this growing segment of the angling population. On‐site interviews with 246 anglers were conducted with a questionnaire, sampling an equal number of guided and unguided anglers in order to examine differences…

  • The link between hunting goals and strategy and harvest outcome

    Nick Sanyal, William J McIaughlin•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•1993•References: 5

This article explores relationships among hunting goals, hunting strategies, and harvest success and attempts to assess if and how the relationships between harvest and nonharvest goals and harvest outcomes change in the presence of selected intervening hunting strategy variables. Log‐linear analysis examines the relationship among harvest outcome, hunting goals, and hunting strategies. Hunting strategies were found helpful in explaining the patt…
