  • Relating Collaborative Capacity to Social-Ecological Outcomes in the United States– Bridging Academic and Practitioner Perspectives

    Samuel B Land, J R Baxter et al.•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•2025•References: 14

Landscape-scale collaborative conservation and stewardship are increasingly recognized by practitioners as effective in addressing complex, transboundary, and intersectional social-ecological challenges. However, the underlying dynamics of “collaborative capacity” remain incompletely expressed in the academic literature. This exploratory qualitative study contributes empirical grounding to the capacity elements, activities, and contextual aspects…

  • The role of advice in life-quality decision-making

    Elise J Dallimore, Amy E Mickel•ARTICLE•Community Work & Family•2011•References: 17

While organizational research supports the importance of advice in organizational decision-making, the role of advice in quality-of-life decisions has been virtually ignored. This study fills this gap by qualitatively examining the role of advice as working professionals report making significant life-quality decisions. Adopting a discursive-formations framework, we focus on memorable messages and absences participants describe when discussing ad…

  • Embracing or embattled by converged mobile devices? Users’ experiences with a contemporary connectivity technology

    Open Access•Sharon F Matusik, Amy E Mickel•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2011•Cited by: 21•References: 59

In this qualitative study, we examine how converged mobile devices (e.g. BlackBerries, Treos, and iPhones) are experienced by users of this contemporary connectivity technology. Perhaps not surprisingly, users experience similar pressures to be accessible and responsive; however, the sources of these expectations extend beyond those internal to organizations to include sources external to organizations (e.g. family, friends, industry, CMD-user co…

  • Life-quality decisions: Tension-management strategies used by individuals when making tradeoffs

    Open Access•Amy E Mickel, Elise J Dallimore•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2009•Cited by: 6•References: 58

An investigation of perceived tradeoffs associated with significant life-quality decisions yielded five tension-management strategies which include: a) adopting a guiding philosophy, b) engaging in an ongoing practice, c) perceiving tradeoffs as `nothing given up of value/importance', d) applying a present orientation, and e) applying a future orientation. These strategies emerge as ways working professionals in the United States manage tension. …

  • What does the pursuit of a high quality of life entail: Grounding a theoretical model in lived experience

    Amy E Mickel, Elise J Dallimore et al.•ARTICLE•Community Work & Family•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 7

In response to calls for a better understanding of quality of life, we draw upon working professionals' perspectives and experiences to introduce a theoretical model that emerged from an inductive analysis of respondents' language. A key element of this model includes a collective picture of factors representing quality of life. Further, this model suggests interrelatedness among these factors with pursuit of a high quality of life emerging as a …
