Physical Social Capital and Psychosocial Social Capital as Mediators Between Socio-economic Inequality and Expressions of Well-being and Health in Israeli Kibbutz Populations
A large number of studies show that degree of socio-economic inequality ‘within’ a social entity negatively determines levels of well-being and life expectancy, and is positively associated with morbidity and mortality. This relationship holds over and above the impact of average income level. This initially suggested model put forward a causal flow with mediating variables of ‘relative deprivation’ and followed it up with the expressions of ‘soc…
Kibbutzim as a Real-life Utopia
For many decades kibbutzim in Israel have aspired to embody principles of a Utopian community. Members live in such community out of their free will with knowledge of other life options and the possibility to leave whenever they wish and all members of that community satisfy all their needs in a sustainable way. They maximise the expression of their human potential and live in a community of equality among the members, according to their unique h…

This study's goal is to explore the processes by which values determine organizational commitment by comparing the relative importance of social values held by members and the degree of their realization by their ideologically centered communities, with the importance of members' needs satisfaction within the community. Two sets of data with similar samples of Kibbutz members in Israel serve as the base for the study and for cross validation of t…

We suggest that such discrepancies arise because of the processes of social categorization, and also because scholars have focused more on universal attributes of individualism/collectivism (I/C) than on cultural processes. Our comments also draw attention to several theoretical and methodological problems associ…
