Loss in life expectancy after a colon cancer diagnosis by socioeconomic group
Loss in life expectancy (LLE) by socioeconomic position (SEP) is obtained to explore cancer disparities. Often education or income are used to determine SEP. However, the low income of some older individuals or females within households with greater overall resources may not accurately reflect their SEP, potentially leading to biased estimates. Our study investigates how various conceptualizations of SEP influence the extent of these disparities.…
Income disparities in loss in life expectancy after colon and rectal cancers
BACKGROUND: Differences in the prognosis after colorectal cancer (CRC) by socioeconomic position (SEP) have been reported previously; however, most studies focused on survival differences at a particular time since diagnosis. We quantified the lifetime impact of CRC and its variation by SEP, using individualised income to conceptualise SEP. METHODS: Data included all adults with a first-time diagnosis of colon or rectal cancers in Sweden between …

Costume Cinema and Materiality
In 'Costume Cinema and Materiality: Telling the Story of Marie Antoinette through Dress' a materiality-based approach for analysing film narratives through costumes is examined. Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette (2006) serves as the empirical starting point and the theme of dressing and redressing is pursued throughout the film, crystallizing costume as a significant feature for reading the movie. The article argues that costumes, on a symbol…
Dressed for Success
The aim of this article was to discuss the relationship between Hollywood film and fashion from a cultural studies approach of film studies, where the Academy Awards of 2005 have served as a point of departure. This relationship was further viewed in the context of contemporary popular press, and theoretical questions of spectatorship concerning female film stars and fashion as expressions for identity were considered. The discussion therefore pa…
