  • Estimating years of life lost due to premature mortality at regional level in France in 2017, using a probabilistic redistribution approach

Open Access•Romana Haneef, Aline Scohy et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

We quantified the full mortality burden for the first time in France at regional level, based on a new probabilistic redistribution method developed by researchers from Sciensano before COVID-19 pandemic. These estimates are important for future investigations on the contribution of social inequalities and risk factors to all-cause mortality in France with a focus on regional differences

  • The direct disease burden of Covid-19 in Belgium in 2020 and 2021

Open Access•Brecht Devleesschauwer, Lander Willems et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

COVID-19 had a substantial impact on population health in Belgium, especially in 2020, when COVID-19 would have been the main cause of disease burden if all other causes had maintained their 2019 level

  • Qaly losses for chronic diseases and its social distribution in the general population

Open Access•Lisa Van Wilder, Brecht Devleesschauwer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Given that chronic diseases will rise in the next decades, addressing its burden is necessary, particularly among the most vulnerable (i.e. older persons, women, low SES). Interventions in these target groups should get priority in order to reduce the burden of chronic diseases

  • Belgian population norms for the EQ-5D-5L, 2018

Open Access•Lisa Van Wilder, Rawan Charafeddine et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2021

This paper presents the first nationally representative Belgian population norms using the EQ-5D-5L. Inclusion of the EQ-5D in future surveys will allow monitoring over time of self-reported health, disease burden, and health inequalities

  • A world apart

    Open Access•Olivier J Hardy, Dominique Dubourg et al.•ARTICLE•Demographic Research•2021•References: 37

In Western countries, COVID-19 has been particularly deadly for care home residents
