  • Interventions to Promote Forgiveness in Couple and Family Context

Open Access•Everett L Worthington, David J Jennings et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychology and Theology•2010

Forgiveness interventions have not been adapted for children, couples, families, and also specifically with Christians. Conceptualization and theorizing have lagged empirical studies. We use a stress-and-coping conceptualization of forgiveness to provide a framework for understanding forgiveness in family context, especially with Christians. Although several evidence-based interventions to promote forgiveness have been developed, few have targete…

  • Gender differences among homeless persons

    Frederick A Diblasio, John R Belcher•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1995

Data from a survey of men and women in urban shelters for the homeless revealed that, while women were more likely than men to request a variety of services, most of the difference was accounted for by the subgroup of women accompanied by children. Homeless men and women without children exhibited few differences in the number of services they requested

  • Adolescent Sexual Behavior

    Brent B Benda, Frederick A Diblasio•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1994•Cited by: 6

This study tested a path model, composed of concepts from social control, social learning and differential association theories, to determine its use in explaining frequency of adolescent sexual intercourse. The model was tested using two-stage least squares regression procedures, and it was based on assumptions underlying recent refinements in theoretical models presented in the literature. The model derived from statistical procedures did not d…

  • A Conceptual Model of Sexuality Active Peer Association

    Open Access•Frederick A Diblasio, Brent B Benda•ARTICLE•Youth & Society•1994•Cited by: 7•References: 19

This study of 1,478 adolescents who attended 10 private schools was designed to test an integrative theoretical model of sexually active peer association. The model consisted of social control elements, family/peer linkage factors, peer bonding, coercive relationship variables, and acceptance seeking. Results supported the hypothesized model that social control elements are relevant to peer association but were less clear about the nature of thes…

  • The Employed Homeless

Frederick A Diblasio, John R Belcher et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sociology & Social…•1993

Departing from the conventional wisdom of who constitutes the homeless, the "employed homeless" emerge as a subgroup of the homeless population in a state-wide Maryland Study (n= 178) at 25 shelter facilities. Twenty-four percent. of the homeless were found to work fulltime and eleven percent part-time. Gender disability, health, previous mental health hospitalization, military experience and education were significantly associated with employmen…

  • Clergy Marriages

    Open Access•Brent B Benda, Frederick A Diblasio•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychology and Theology•1992

This was a study of marital adjustment among clergy who had attended a Presbyterian seminary and their spouses (N= 247). The proposed explanatory model that was tested was composed of earner status (dual or single earner families), role orientation, perceived stress related to work, perceived stress from family, perceived stress from the combination of work and family, and gender. Hierarchical regression procedures revealed that the model explain…

  • Comparison of four theories of adolescent sexual exploration

    Brent B Benda, Frederick A Diblasio•ARTICLE•Deviant Behavior•1991•Cited by: 16•References: 31

This study tested competing theoretical concepts derived from social learning, differential association, social control, and containment theories, using hierarchial regression statistical procedures to examine their use in explaining whether or not adolescents had experienced sexual intercourse. It consisted of cross‐sectional data solicited from 1496 private high‐school students. Bivariate and multivariate analyses supported the assumption that …

  • Adolescent Sexual Behavior

    Open Access•Frederick A Diblasio, Brent B Benda•ARTICLE•Journal of Adolescent Research•1990•Cited by: 21•References: 9

Despite numerous studies on adolescent sexuality, few use coherent theoretical models and multivariate analyses on data from high school students. This study tested a social-learning model for its ability to explain adolescent sexual intercourse from a multivariate approach. Data weregathered from 1,610 high school studentsfrom private schools. Findings indicated that all eight of the theoretical variables were significantly correlated with sexua…

  • Integrative Strategies for Family Therapy with Evangelical Christians

    Open Access•Frederick A Diblasio•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychology and Theology•1988

If family therapists are to be more effective with evangelical Christian families, they must pay serious attention to the beliefs of these families and modify treatment approaches to account fully for faith issues. Peripheral treatment of faith issues promotes conflict and unnecessary resistance, as it prevents therapists from truly engaging and helping clients. Evangelical Christianity is much more than a religious life-style and set of beliefs.…
