The trust in government gap
According to Tang and Huhe, individuals “are nested in a multiplicity of governments,” including national and local governments, “and . . . constantly find themselves in variant relationships with government at different levels”. Yet, previous research has mostly concentrated on individuals’ assessments of national governments, or supranational organizations such as the European Union, overlooking assessments of local governments and their effect…
Hypereidés
Hypereidés Dióndas ellen című beszédének jelentős töredékét, amely az Archimédés palimpsestusban maradt ránk, korábban Kr. e. 334 tavaszára (Horváth) vagy nyarára (Rhodes) keltezték. Lane Fox nemrégiben a ZPE hasábjain kételyeket fogalmazott meg elsősorban a Kr. e. 334. január–márciusi keltezéssel szemben, és a beszédet Kr. e. 331-re datálta. A tanulmány válasz e javaslatra és a Kr. e. 334. évi keltezés megerősítése

Szövegkritikai útvesztők. Ps.-Longinos περι υψουσ XXXIV 2 szöveghelyéhez
Ps.-Longinos Fenségről című művének Hypereidésről szóló fejezete (XXXIV) számos szövegkritikai problémát tartalmaz. A közlemény a mértékadó kiadásokban szereplő, a második alfejezet egyik helyére vonatkozó apparatusbéli megjegyzéseket pontosítja
Hyperides, Against Diondas, in defence of the date January–March 334 BC
The significant fragment of Hyperides' speech Against Diondas , which survived in the Archimedes Palimpsest, was previously dated to the spring (Horváth) or summer (Rhodes) of 334 BC. Lane Fox's recent paper in ZPE expressed doubts, primarily regarding the January–March 334 BC date and instead placed the speech in 331 BC. This study responds to that suggestion and reconfirms the early 334 BC date

Hypereides
Hypereides' In defence of Euxenippus against Polyeuctus upon his indictment for treason was dated by its first editor Churchill Babington to the year 334 BC, while the second editor, Domenico Comparetti, places the possible date of composition almost ten years later, to the period between 330 and 324 BC. According to Comparetti, the orator could only have quoted the expression ‘Molossia is mine’ from the letter of Alexander's mother Olympias to t…
The organisational context of middle management role behaviour in Hungarian schools
Growing evidence suggests that the effectiveness of a school’s operations is determined not by a single leader, but by a community of leaders. Middle managers can coordinate processes in formal positions and lead informal groups, facilitating the realisation of leadership goals. This study utilises a large-scale survey to analyse middle managers’ perceptions of organisational learning and discuss their additional supporting roles and responsibili…
Social and genetic diversity in first farmers of central Europe
The Linearbandkeramik (LBK) Neolithic communities were the first to spread farming across large parts of Europe. We report genome-wide data for 250 individuals: 178 individuals from whole-cemetery surveys of the Alföld Linearbankeramik Culture eastern LBK site of Polgár-Ferenci-hát, the western LBK site of Nitra Horné Krškany and the western LBK settlement and massacre site of Asparn-Schletz, as well as 48 LBK individuals from 16 other sites and …
Precarity and populism
Precarity is often evoked in discussions about the rise of populism, but there is a dearth of systematic operationalization of the sociological concept of insecurity in populist research. This study fills this gap by theorizing about and empirically linking work-related and financial insecurity to populist outlook and voting in ten European countries. We propose a theoretical framework that links insecurity, respectively, to populist attitudes (s…
Harminchárom eltérő vagy új olvasat
ABSZTRAKT A tanulmány azt a harminchárom szöveghelyet mutatja be, ahol Jensen mértékadó kiadásához ké-pest a szerző eltérő vagy új olvasatot javasol. A javítások autopsziával végzett kollacionálás eredményei. Bár többségük kisebb jelentőségű, néhány új olvasat Athénogenés és Troizén kapcsolatát jobban érthetővé teszi. A városba később makedón helyőrséget telepítő athéni metoikos minden bizonnyal Troizénban nevelkedett és emiatt menekült oda vissz…
Identities in flux? National and other changing identities during the Covid-19 pandemic
Social identities, such as identification with the nation, are regarded as core variables in explanations of political attitudes and behaviors. In these accounts, increases in the importance of an identity such as “Englishness” are often seen to be accompanied by decreases in the importance of other, more inclusive, identities such as “British” or “European.” At the same time, increases in exclusive national identities like “Englishness” present …
Citizens' acceptance of artificial intelligence in public services
Citizens' acceptance of artificial intelligence (AI) in public service delivery is important for its legitimate and effective use by government. Human involvement in AI systems has been suggested as a way to boost citizens' acceptance and perceptions of these systems' fairness. However, there is little empirical evidence to assess these claims. To address this gap, we conducted a pre-registered conjoint experiment in the UK regarding acceptance o…
Authoritarianism, perceptions of security threats, and the Covid-19 pandemic
This article offers a new perspective on when and why individual-level authoritarian perceptions of security threats change. We reexamine claims that authoritarian members of the public responded to the COVID-19 pandemic in a counterintuitive fashion. The response was counterintuitive in that, rather than a desire for a stronger government with the ability to impose measures to address the pandemic and its consequences, authoritarian individuals …
Neuere Überlegungen zu Hypereides' Rede gegen Demosthenes im Spiegel der Textkritik
This paper analyses and interprets three passages in Hyperides' speech against Demosthenes and suggests a textual correction. The statements in columns XXIX–XXX become more comprehensible based on the relevant passages in the speech against Diondas. In line 21 of columna XXVIII, αὐτῷ (pronomen personale – Jensen and all the editors) should be replaced by αὑτῷ (pronomen reflexivum), which reconstructs the proper meaning of the text. After Chaerone…

What's Work Got to Do with It? How Precarity Influences Radical Party Support in France and the Netherlands
The rising support for radical parties in Europe has triggered a new interest in the political sociology of voting and how voters with socio-economic insecurity are moving away from establishment politics. In this article, we apply Standing's concept of 'precarity' to capture insecurity among ordinary voters and thereby expand the individual socio-economic explanations behind the vote for radical populist right (RPR) and radical left (RL) parties…
Hypereidés Démosthenés ellen című beszédének értelmezéséhez (col. XXVIII skk.)
A tanulmány Hypereidés Démosthenés ellen című beszédének három helyét elemzi és értelmezi, illetve szövegkritikai javítást javasol. A XXIX–XXX. columnákban foglalt közlések a Dióndas ellen elmondott beszéd megfelelő helyei alapján érthetőbbé válnak. A XXVIII. columna 21. sorában az αὐτῷ (pronomen personale – Jensen és minden szövegkiadó) helyett αὑτῷ (pronomen reflexivum) a helyes olvasat, amely helyreállítja a szöveghely értelmét. Chairóneia utá…
Hypereidés Démosthenés ellen című beszédének töredékei
A tanulmány Hypereidés Démosthenés ellen című beszédének szöveghagyományát tekinti át a Har- ris-Arden papirusztekercs töredékcsoportjainak bemutatásával. Gianfranco Bartolini fél évszázaddal korábban publikált átfogó elemzését egészíti ki az 1972 óta megismert adatokkal. Az előkészületben lévő Hypereidés-szövegkiadás (Bibliotheca Teubneriana) előszavának egyik, bővített fejezetét jelenti. This paper reviews the textual tradition of Hyperides’ sp…

Public Attitudes and Private Prejudices
Our study concerns the factors leading to the electoral success and failure of LGBTQ candidates in the context of the changing nature of prejudices. We hypothesize that more positive views toward “respectability candidates,” as captured by familial status, has replaced explicit prejudice toward out LGBTQ candidates in societies where acceptance of sexual minorities in general has grown. In a survey experiment conducted with a sample of Canadian v…
Crop growth, carbon sequestration and soil erosion in an organic vineyard of the Villány Wine District, Southwest Hungary
A more resilient adaptation to changing climate calls for crop diversification in vineyards, too. As a contribution to the H2020 collaborative project of the European Union, called Diverfarming, and part of the agroecological experiments during 2018 and 2019, grapevine biomass growth was monitored in connection with carbon storage types in soil and in the deposits removed by soil erosion. Phenometry was carried out interpreting segmented images t…

Citizens’ Attitudes to Contact Tracing Apps

Of these, roughly 110 features forming five distinct clusters were part of a Middle Iron Age open settlement. The two moulds made from local sandstone were used for casting bronze buttons or loop buttons and small bow brooches. One of the two bivalve moulds was strongly worn, whi…

Egy hérodotosi történet és Alexandros perzsa trónigénye
A tanulmány a Hérodotos művében olvasható talányos történet (V. 18-21) új értelmezési kísérlete. Ps. Longinos és Eustathios elmarasztaló kritikája mellet…

Komikus áthallások a szónoki érvelésben
A tanulmány Hypereidés Athénogenés elleni beszédének felépítését, az érvelés technikáját vizsgálja. A kilátástalannak tűnő jogi helyzetben (aláírással hitelesített szerződést kellett semmissé tenni) részint az ügyhöz nem tartozó törvények felsorolásával, részint a felfokozott személyes invektívával, mindenekelőtt azonban a beszédbe szőtt komikus áthallásokkal igyekezett a szónok hallgatóságát befolyásolni. Kelta temető leletei Szabadiból (Somogy megye)
A Szabadi község határában nyitott homokbányában a homok kitermelésével párhuzamosan folyó leletmentés során 12 kelta szórthamvas sírt sikerült megfigyelni és leleteiket összegyűjteni. A négy csoportból álló temetőt a leletek részletes értékelése alapján a LT B2a-Clb periódusok között használták. A legkiemelkedőbb sír a fegyveres többes temetkezés, melynek magyarázatára több variáció lehetséges (akár trimarkisia is). A fegyverek - különösen a paj…

The vicissitudinous history of the Athenogenes-papyrus and its edition
This paper reveals the vicissitudinous history of the Athenogenes-papyrus and its edition by Eugène Revillout and other scholars. By reconstructing the sequence of events between 1888 and 1893 one can get a convincing explanation of disturbing features in the frames containing the papyrus fragments. Slight misallocations and dislocations due to the rushed final fixing had far reaching consequences in later editions of the famous Hyperides text un…
Neue historische Daten bei Hypereides
The paper presents possible explanations to issues raised by the newly discovered text of Hyperides that offers previously unknown data about the number of Athenian ships at Salamis, Artemision and the Athenian contingent in the Corinthian League. In the case of the ships the orator in all probability drew on Herodotus’ text, but also distorted it by emphasizing Athens’ involvement in the Persian wars. All this to present a historical parallel of…

Perhalasztás athénban A γραψή παρανόμων időzítése
Ebben a tanulmányban a γραψή παρανόμων perekben az esküdtbírósági tárgyalás halasztásának, illetve halogatásának jelenségét vizsgálom. A legismertebb klasszikus példa a koszorú-per, amelyet Aischinés Kr. e. 336-ben benyújtott vádirata után hat évvel, Kr. e. 330-ben tárgyaltak. 1 Ugyanezt a jelenséget tapasztaljuk azonban a Hypereidést érintő Dióndas-perben is, ahol a vádirat benyújtása és a tárgyalás között négy év telt el. 2
