Robustness of the School-Level Polytomous Irt Model
Robustness of the school-level, polytomous IRT model to violations of the assumptions that (a) student ability is normally distributed within schools, (b) the within-school distribution of student ability has constant variance across schools, and (c) the mean student ability for each school is distributed normally across schools was assessed in a computer simulation study. The study considered variation of the intraclass correlation (the ratio of…
School-Level Irt Assessment of Year-to-Year Performance Changes
Year-to-year changes in average writing performance for a sample of 188 schools were estimated with a group-level version of the generalized partial credit IRT model. School-level IRT-based equating adjustments were required to provide a stable scale over the 2 years and to estimate year-to-year changes in average performance for the sample of schools. The results illustrated that technical equating adjustments can be important even when there ha…
Work-Family Policies
American leaders (N = 261) in four realms were studied to assess their views on the helpfulness to workers with family obligations of employers' policies and services. The realms were corporate management, labor unions, the pro-family movement, and the feminist movement. The data were analyzed by leadership realm and gender in relation to policies of two types: (1) scheduling and work arrangements (such as flextime, four-day weeks) and (2) servic…
