Comparative Representation of Historical Knowledge in Collective Memory (Ukraine and Russia Samplings)
A Model for Pathological States of the Sensory System
A number of new approaches to dealing with pathological states of the sensory system have recently been devised. The concept of a threshold can serve as a model for determining not only pathological conditions but also the way such conditions develop
The Mechanism of Sensory Processes in Signal Detection by Schizophrenics
The aim of this paper is to analyze the mechanisms of sensory responses and their relation to the criterion for making a voluntary decision. In principle, sensory responses may be described by a statistical model of the observer. By "observer" we mean a person following a system of signals that occur against a background of external interference. In the present report we shall examine one particular type of task performed by the observer, namely,…
The Mechanism of Sensory Processes in Signal Detection by Schizophrenics (an Addendum on Methods)
The following note on methods was supplied by Professor Korzh for Soviet Psychology, but arrived too late for inclusion in the article itself, which will be found on page 39 of the Fall 1973 issue (Vol. XII, No. 1). The translation is by Douglas M. Bowden, M.D., of the University of Washington, Seattle
Retention and Recognition of a Sound Signal of Fixed Intensity
Here is a description of one of the rare demonstrations of an improvement in recall for a specific experience with increasingly long retention intervals. The study is also unusual because by combining accuracy and physiological data, the authors are able to tie their findings in with already established physiological phenomena (e.g., lateral inhibition) that point the way to a new approach to the study of memory
