  • Cooperation mechanism for stakeholders’ sustainable adoption of blockchain-based food traceability systems

    Open Access•Mutian Zhao, Qiuyi Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Futures•2026•References: 3

Amid globalization, traditional food traceability systems (FTS) are inadequate to address evolving food fraud in complex supply chains. Thus, adopting blockchain-based food traceability systems (BFTS) is crucial for enhancing food safety. Yet its sustainable, large-scale integration into supply chains to deliver real effectiveness faces obstacles, requiring coordinated efforts from governments, food manufacturers and retailers to incentivize cros…

  • How Social Attributes Affect the Movement Process of Subgroups When Facing a Static Obstacle

Open Access•Wenhan Wu, Wenfeng Yi et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2025

With the increasing number of studies on crowd behavior analysis, there has been a widespread interest in treating subgroups as an important topic. A previous experimental study has investigated the decision-making and motion behavior of subgroups when facing a static obstacle during movement. However, it is hard to quantify social attributes (e.g., interpersonal relationships and sense of identity) and little is known about how they affect the m…

  • What factors influence the motivation of logistics enterprises to adopt green technology? An empirical study based on the TOE model

Yun Sun, Yan V Sun et al.•ARTICLE•British Food Journal•2025

Purpose With the help of the technology-organization-environment (TOE) modeling framework, we conducted model construction and analysis. We obtained that the motivation of enterprises to carry out green logistics construction is strongly influenced by technological and environmental factors, which will provide a solution for the cultivation of green behaviors and green and energy-saving production of enterprises. Design/methodology/approach The o…

  • Simulating the Evacuation Process Involving Multitype Disabled Pedestrians

Open Access•Wenhan Wu, Wenfeng Yi et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2023

The study of crowd evacuation has received considerable attention as the frequent occurrence of crowd disasters in public places. Notably, the increasing proportion of disabled pedestrians makes vulnerable crowds an indispensable part of the evacuation process. However, most previous research neglects to introduce the motion characteristics of disabled pedestrians into the modeling of crowd evacuation. Therefore, we develop an extended model to s…

  • Rural and Urban Differences in Stage at Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer in Hunan Province, China

    Open Access•Liuxun Li, Elaina Y Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Illness Crisis & Loss•2018•References: 38

This study set out to investigate whether patients in rural areas tend to have more advanced prostate cancer (PCa) than urban areas in Hunan province, define possible factors related to the stage at diagnosis of PCa between rural and urban areas, and to determine the potential correlations between these factors and PCa stage at time of diagnosis. Data were used from a retrospective database of 490 PCa patients from the Third XiangYa hospital. Rur…

  • A Comparison of Market Integration in Nineteenth‐Century China and Japan

Open Access•Ke Yao, Xiaoping Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Economic History Review•2016

This paper performs a cointegration analysis using an Error Correction Model (ECM) on annual rice prices to measure and compare market integration in China and Japan during the nineteenth century. We find markets in Japan were more integrated than in China at both the regional and national levels during the period. Moreover, market integration in Japan improved during industrialisation. These findings support the view that a well‐integrated marke…

  • Measurement of Optimal City Sizes in Japan

    Open Access•Xiao-Ping Zheng, Xiaoping Zheng•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 10

This paper measures optimal city sizes for Japanese metropolitan areas, using a surplus function approach. The surplus function is defined as the difference between the total disposable income and the total expenditure of the households working and living in the metropolitan areas and the optimal city size refers to such a population of metropolitan areas that maximises the surplus function. The estimated results show that the optimal city size o…

  • Economies of Network, Urban Agglomeration, and Regional Development

    Xiao-Ping Zheng, Xiaoping Zheng•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Zheng X.-P. (2007) Economies of network, urban agglomeration, and regional development: a theoretical model and empirical evidence, Regional Studies 41, 559–569. Concerning urban and regional development, it seems that the effect of agglomeration economies has been extensively studied, but very little attention has been paid to the contribution from the economies of network. This paper attempts to show that regional development is not only brough…

  • A note on the equilibrium and optimum of a transitional urban economy

  • Measuring Optimal Population Distribution by Agglomeration Economies and Diseconomies

    Open Access•Xiao-Ping Zheng, Xiaoping Zheng•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•1998•Cited by: 2•References: 14

This paper presents an empirical study on the optimality of population distribution within the Tokyo metropolitan area. By taking into account the effects of agglomeration economies and diseconomies on the urban business firms' and households' behaviour, a benefit function and a cost function are obtained that are dependent on the distribution of urban population. Using statistical data from the Tokyo metropolitan area, estimates are made of thes…

  • Metropolitan Spatial Structure and its Determinants

    Open Access•Xiao-Ping Zheng, Xiaoping Zheng•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•1991•Cited by: 11•References: 18

In this paper, to describe accurately the spatial structure of the Tokyo metropolitan area, the cubic-spline density function approach is applied and modified. It is shown that, during the 1975-85 decade, there was a substantial suburbanisation in the whole study area, while its three directional regions displayed three different spatial patterns. In identifying the determinants of the spatial dynamics, a varying-parameter model is proposed to co…

  • The Services Sector and Urban Spatial Structure

    Open Access•Xiao-Ping Zheng, Xiaoping Zheng•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1990•References: 7

In this paper a general equilibrium model of an intraurban system is presented in which the services sector is explicitly introduced. By restricting the location of the services sector to the city center, three possible land-use patterns are derived from the model: centralized, decentralized, and integrated. By applying the new technique of catastrophe theory into this new urban economic framework, it is shown that the spatial structure which wil…
