  • Evaluating Bereavement Response Plans in Daycare

    Open Access•Martin Lytje, Atle Dyregrov et al.•ARTICLE•Illness Crisis & Loss•2025•References: 20

This study examines the implementation and use of bereavement response plans (bereavement plans) in Danish and Norwegian daycare institutions. Two large-scale surveys were conducted to explore the implementation rates, satisfaction levels, and source of the plans. The data collected was analyzed using frequency analyses and Chi-square tests of independence. The findings suggest that 87% of Danish institutions have bereavement plans compared to 98…

  • Funeral directors’ experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Atle Dyregrov, Pål Kristensen et al.•ARTICLE•Mental Health Religion & Culture•2024

To investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on death rituals among funeral directors (FDs) (N = 134), we administered a questionnaire and conducted three focus group interviews (N = 21). The merged results showed that the FDs perceived significant disruptions to all rituals but mostly to memorials. Infection control, social distancing, the constraints on attendee numbers and difficult prioritisation of who to be allowed into the rituals, h…

  • Predictors of Treatment Response to an Internet-Delivered Intervention Targeting Residual Cognitive Symptoms After Major Depressive Disorder

Open Access•Sunniva Brurok Myklebost, Rolf Gjestad et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

This study suggests that individuals with shorter duration of previous depressions might have larger reductions in residual cognitive symptoms at 6-month follow-up compared to those with a longer duration of depression. Treatment credibility and expectancy also predicted treatment response and effort should also be made to ensure interventions credibility. Results should be interpreted with caution due to the study having a low sample size. Furth…

  • Folate Status as a Nutritional Indicator among People with Substance Use Disorder; A Prospective Cohort Study in Norway

Open Access•Mitra Bemanian, Jørn Henrik Vold et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Substance use disorder (SUD) is associated with poor nutrition. Vitamin B9, or folate, is an important micronutrient for health. The aim of this prospective longitudinal cohort study was to assess serum folate levels among people with SUD and to investigate the impact of factors related to substance use severity on folate status. Participants were recruited from outpatient clinics for opioid agonist therapy (OAT) and municipal health-care clinics…

  • The Influence of Substance Use on Side Effects of Olanzapine, Quetiapine, Risperidone, and Ziprasidone in Psychosis

Renata Alisauskiene, Erik Johnsen et al.•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•2021

BACKGROUND: Side effects restrict the optimal use of antipsychotics. Little is known about the influence of substance use on side effects. The aim of this study was to compare antipsychotic side effects in patients with psychosis with and without substance use, while also taking medication history and diagnosis into consideration. METHODS: = 226, mean age 34, females 33%) diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD; F20-F29) or other psy…

  • Disentangling Within- and Between-Person Effects During Response Inhibition in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Open Access•Pernille Hagland, Anders Lillevik Thorsen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been related to worse performance, abnormal brain activity, and functional connectivity during response inhibition. Whether these findings are indications of stable traits that contribute to the development of the disorder, or whether they are a result of the state severity of obsessions and anxiety, remains unclear since previous research mainly has employed cross-sectional designs. The present…

  • Different Trajectories of Prolonged Grief in Bereaved Family Members After Terror

Open Access•Pål Kristensen, Kari Dyregrov et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Introduction: The loss of a loved one in a terror incident is associated with elevated risk for mental health disorders such as prolonged grief disorder (PGD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but the long- term adaptation after such losses are not well understood. This study aims to explore the trajectories of PGD among parents and siblings ( n = 129) after the 2011 terror attack on Utøya Island, Norway. Methods: The 19-item Inventory of…

  • Losing a child

    Atle Dyregrov, Rolf Gjestad•ARTICLE•Bereavement Care•2012

Few studies have been conducted into the impact on parents’ sexual activity following the death of a child. In this study, 285 bereaved parents representing 175 couples completed a questionnaire and ten couples took part in detailed face-to-face interviews. The majority of parents reported reduced frequency of sexual activity, at least initially, although most resumed sexual relations within three months. There were clear gender differences. Wome…
