  • Police officer attitudes toward community policing

Helen Rosenberg, Robert T Sigler et al.•ARTICLE•Police Practice and Research•2008

We examined police officer attitudes toward community policing over a 19‐month period. Patrol officers' and investigators' attitudes toward community policing are less favorable toward community policing concepts, programming, decentralization of substations, and the community policing unit than senior command and, in some cases, sergeants. Both patrol and investigators indicate strained relationships with supervisors and are more supportive of a…

Primary reform occurred in the federal judicial system with the development and implementation of rigorous sentencing guidelines. Robert T Sigler, David J King•ARTICLE•Policing & Society•1992•Cited by: 1•References: 3

The police acted as an instrument of control for the government. The separation of the police from the community created social distance…

Much controversy exists relevant to a possible link between juvenile delinquency and learning disabilities. The observation that many delinquent children encounter learning disability problems resulted in the conjecture that learning disabilities may lead …

    Robert T Sigler•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1987

The study reported here focuses on the impact of the drug trade on the island of Bimini, an island in the Bahamas about fifty miles from Miami, Florida. An anthropological model introduced by Beals (1953) and elaborated by Pelto (1973) was adapted to explain the findings. This model indicates that the introduction of new technology produces a shift in work patterns which can cause shifts in the economic system and social disorganization. The mode…

Judges are under pressure both to combat crime with longer prison sentences and to increase the use of sentencing options which permit use of a graduated system of dispositions which can be used to rehabilitate offenders. The judges are faced with overcrowded prisons and a general lack of the community programs recommended by many professional organizations and scholars. It is recommended here that judges take an active role in encouraging the de…
