Promoting Inclusivity in Research
Many key groups of people (e.g., older people, disabled people and minoritised people) are at risk of being excluded from research, which will affect the generalisability, quality, relevance, and integrity of the research findings and conclusions. However, ways of making research more inclusive have not been adequately explored. Appropriate strategies to maximise the participation of marginalised populations with diverse viewpoints, expertise, an…
Development and preliminary validation of the South Wales Social Well-being Scale (SWSWBS)
Preliminary validation of the SWSWBS shows the scale has satisfactory psychometric properties with good validity, reliability, and reasonable variability. This study needs to be replicated with larger and representative populations to explore how the scale can be used alongside the Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale to capture a holistic/multi-dimensional understanding of well-being

A survey of service providers' views on care and support provision for older women from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds in Wales
Drawing on quantitative data from a large study, we explored service providers' perceptions of the care and support provided to older women from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds living in the UK. Teenage sexual attitudes and behaviour in China
China is the most populated of any country in the world. Social norms and values pertaining to love and marriage have changed considerably since the launch of its open-door policy and economic reforms of the 1980s. Attitudes to sex have become more open, while the negative consequences of early sexual intercourse have become issues of health and social concern. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the teenage sexual attitudes and be…

Young people’s views on sharing health-related stories on the Internet
There is an increasing interest in the use of stories in healthcare practice and education. However, there are few stories from young people concerning health and little is known about their views on sharing such stories on the Internet. The aim of this study was to explore young people's perspectives in this area. A qualitative method was used and a project website was purposely built to facilitate data collection. An online focus group with 13 …
Sex education beyond school
The negative consequences of teenage sexual behaviour are issues of concern in Britain and many other western countries. Over one-quarter of British young people are reported to become sexually active prior to the age of 16 and the rate of teenage pregnancy remains one of the highest in Western Europe. Current UK Government policy on sex education highlights the provision of skills for ‘safe sex’ at school to reduce teenage pregnancy rates. This …

This article discusses issues related to sampling, rapport, language, and ethnical considerations arising while undertaking research on attitudes toward teenage sexual behavior held by Chinese British families. It highlights the value of using snowball sampling…
