This study aimed to explore how housing can be an enabler or barrier to disabled children’s capabilities through a mixed-methods survey of parents and guardians in Aotearoa New Zealand. In multiple choice responses, many participants reported adverse housing experiences relating to their child’s disability, including leaving a house because it was unsafe. The Importance of Housing Assistance on Reducing Youth Offending in New Zealand
This paper examines the relationship between housing assistance and youth offending in New Zealand (NZ). Using the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), we established three cohorts of youth aged 14–24 who were part of households that received the Emergency Housing Special Needs Grant (EHSNG), lived in public housing, or received the Accommodation Supplement (AS) between 2016 and 2022. Flatting, or shared housing, is become an increasingly common living arrangement in Aotearoa New Zealand. Despite this, there remains a limited body of research about flatting, particularly in how it impacts marginalised groups. This paper provides a quantitative description of the characteristics and housing experiences of LGBTIQ+ people who flat in Aotearoa, and make comparisons to LGBTIQ+ people who are not flatting.
