    Open Access•Robert A Embree•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1998

On the Personal Beliefs Scale of Embree and Embree item ratings obtained from 100 Midwestern undergraduates were used to classify participants into neutral, other, or second-order psychosomaticism mind-body belief types. • Personal Beliefs Scale Redux

    Open Access•Robert A Embree•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1996

Data obtained from the Personal Beliefs Scale of Embree and Embree were used to develop an analysis of variance model for mind-body belief which emphasized a distinction between “conventional” and “unconventional” mind-body beliefs. By means of this model a critically important distinction between high scoring second-order psychosomaticism subjects was achieved. It was proposed that subjects low in unconventional/high conventional tend to employ …

  • The Personal Beliefs Scale as a Measure of Individual Differences in Commitment to the Mind-Body Beliefs Proposed by F. F. Centore

    Open Access•Robert A Embree, Marlowe C Embree•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1993

    F. F. Centore's (1979) taxonomy of mind-body beliefs centers on the definition of what it means to be a person. The Personal Beliefs Scale was developed to measure the relative influence of six mind-body positions in the thinking of the ordinary person. Responses from a sample of 251 undergraduates gave estimated split-half reliabilities of .83 or greater for each of the six subscales. Factor analysis provided substantive support for the Centore …

  • The Religious Association Scale

    Robert A Embree•ARTICLE•Journal for the Scientific Study…•1973

The Religious Association Scale (RAS) was administered to students enrolled in an introductory psychology course (N = 121). RAS was found to correlate positively with all four single-item measures of religiousness. It also correlated positively with scholastic aptitude. A factor analysis of the intercorrelations showed that RAS loads on both a religious criterion factor and the aptitude factor. These results suggest that RAS should be modified in…

  • The Religious Association Scale as an 'Abilities' Measure of the Religious Factor in Personality

    Robert A Embree•ARTICLE•Journal for the Scientific Study…•1970

A measure of religiosity was developed, based on subjects' associations to 80 consonant-vowelconsonant groups, which had previously been scaled for religious association value. Subjects were not given ambiguous instructions intended to measure how many religious associations might spon. taneously emerge. Rather, subjects were specificaily instructed to form religious associations, if they could, and to use the association in a complete sentence. …
