Preferences for Treatment Approaches in Medical Care
Preferences for degree of involvement in health care of 47 low-income, inner city, outpatient diabetic patients were measured by the Health Opinion Survey (HOS). These scores were compared with those of three normative groups of college students. Significant differences were found between the samples on each HOS subscale and the total HOS (all P values less than 0.001). Implications of these differences for health care providers are discussed
Effects of knowledge that attributions will be observed by others
Effects of Temporal Delay and Achievement Motivation on the Choice of Achievement-Related Alternatives
Prior research has demonstrated that subjects high in achievement motivation prefer tasks of intermediate difficulty, while those low in achievement motivation prefer tasks of high or low difficulty (Weiner, Frieze, Kukla, Reed, Rest, & Rosenbaum, 1971). In the current experiment one task was described as easy, while the other task was described as being of moderate difficulty. It was anticipated that high achievers would find a task of moderate …
Effect of locus of control, expectancy confirmation-disconfirmation, and type of goal on causal attributions of failure
Attitudes and Perception of Attitude Changes Within the Interdisciplinary Staff of an Evening Mental Health Clinic
A study was made of the attitudes of a multidisciplinary staff of an evening mental health clinic. The focus of the clinic is on short-term treatment, and one of the main purposes of the study was to investigate the reactions of staff members to this type of treatment orientation. Results indicated that staff members, when considered as a whole felt that their confidence in their short-term treatment skills and their belief in the effectiveness o…
Actual and perceived differences in male and female expectancies and minimal goal levels as a function of competition1
Valence of expected and unexpected outcomes as a function of locus of goal and type of expectancy
Runway Performance as a Function of Magnitude of Runway Reward and Intertrial Reinforcement
Rats were trained to traverse a straight alley for either 1 or 10 food pellets as reward. Each runway trial was preceded by an intertrial reinforcement of 1 or 10 pellets. A negative contrast effect obtained and persisted throughout the 72 trials conducted. Although there was a strong suggestion of a positive contrast effect throughout training, the effect did not prove reliable. The contrast effect results were interpreted as challenging the vie…
Performance expectancies and affect associated with outcomes as a function of time perspective
