  • Predictors of patient’s intentions to participate in pragmatic clinical trials

Open Access•Bryan Gibson, Jorie Butler et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Population Health•2016

The Veterans Health Administration is implementing a pragmatic trial research program, called Point of Care Research (POC-R). The purpose of this telephone survey in which respondents were randomized to different framing conditions of the purpose of POC-R was to determine the impact of differing frames of the purpose of POC-R on attitudes towards the program and intentions to participate; and the relative importance of different beliefs and attit…

  • Overutilization of Acute-Care Beds in Veterans Affairs Hospitals

    CHARLES B SMITH, Ronald L Goldman et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1996•References: 8

  • Once a boring task always a boring task? Interest as a self-regulatory mechanism

Carol Sansone, Charlene Weir et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1992•Cited by: 13

A process was proposed through which individuals regulate their motivation to perform necessary but uninteresting activities over time. If committed to continuing, individuals may engage in interest-enhancing strategies that can change the activity into something more positive to perform. In Study 1 Ss performed novel tasks and generated strategies to make regular performance interesting. In Study 2 Ss actually used these strategies primarily in …

  • Effects of instruction on intrinsic interest

Carol Sansone, Daniel A Sachau et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1989

Two studies examined how contextual cues influence the impact of receiving instructions for improving performance on intrinsic motivation. The authors proposed that whether instruction enhances or decreases motivation depends on the salience of performance goals. Goal salience was proposed to be a function of how an individual defines the activity, which, in turn, may be influenced by contextual features. To test this hypothesis, the authors used…
