  • Expectations for childhood development among child-abusing and nonabusing parents

    Ruth I Kravitz, James M Driscoll•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1983•References: 7

The hypothesis that parents who abuse children have unrealistically premature expectations for the children's development was tested. No differences in expectations of abusing and nonabusing parents were found. Results support earlier studies suggesting that the unrestricted form of the notion that abusing parents have premature developmental expectations be discarded

  • Effects of uncertainty and importance on information search in decision making

    John T Lanzetta, James M Driscoll•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1968•Cited by: 5

  • Preference for Information under Varying Conditions of Outcome Uncertainty, Intensity, and Delay

    Open Access•James M Driscoll, John T Lanzetta et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

Two studies examined the effects of outcome uncertainty ( H), intensity, and delay on S's preference for information over no-information. Ss were instructed to depress either an information or no-information key on each of 60 trials prior to the scheduled occurrence of one of several possible (positive, neutral, mildly negative, strongly negative) outcomes. An information choice resulted in an outcome-correlated signal 0, 10, or 15 sec. prior to …

  • Choice Conflict and Subjective Uncertainty in Decision Making

    Open Access•James M Driscoll, Jerome Tognoli et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1966

Subjective uncertainty and information search behavior were examined as a function of response uncertainty ( H), estimated from the number and relative likelihood of responses elicited by tachistoscopically presented pictures. Both subjective uncertainty and search increased with H and S's information search correlated positively with reports of subjective uncertainty. The data suggest that: (a) subjective uncertainty (S.U.) and search behavior a…

  • Preference for information about an uncertain but unavoidable outcome

    John T Lanzetta, James M Driscoll•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1966•Cited by: 7

(Predictive strategies and the need to confirm them: some notes on pathological types of decision. 'Psychological Reports,' 15:99-105 (1964)). The study was designed to examine the effects on search of type of outcome (whether positive or negative), and to monitor the affective state of subjects in an attempt to clarify the basis for overtly noninstrumental search behavior. The study had three objectives: (a) to extend to the human level the anal…

  • Effects of Two Sources of Uncertainty in Decision Making

    Open Access•James M Driscoll, John T Lanzetta•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1965

The effects of variation in the stimulus and response uncertainty of a decision task on the decision maker's subjective uncertainty, amount of information search, and information processing were examined. Results indicated that: (a) information search tended to continue until one bit of stimulus and/or response uncertainty remained, independent of the level of initial uncertainty; (b) the higher the stimulus uncertainty of the decision task, the …

  • Effects of Problem Uncertainty and Prior Arousal on Pre-Decisional Information Search

    Open Access•James M Driscoll, John T Lanzetta•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1964

Fifty-four undergraduate Ss at the University of Delaware were presented sequentially 10 decision problems. Prior to making a decision on a problem, S had the option of receiving up to five additional information items. Independent variables were the initial uncertainty of the decision problem and prior “emotional” arousal. Dependent measures were the number of information items taken, the utilization of time resources, and S's arousal level (GSR…
