Addiction to altruism? Opponent-process theory and habitual blood donation
Three theories of egocentric speech: A contrastive analysis
Three theories of egocentric speech are contrasted. Alternative predictions of the same phenomenon by the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky and a prototheoretical position associated with Mead, Flavell and Wilder are subjected to empirical evaluation. The Mead‐Flavell‐Wilder prototheory proved to be the most predictive. Weaknesses in its explanatory power are explored. Some assumptions remain to be tested before the contrast is complete
A Comparative Test of Two Stochastic Process Models of Messages, Mediating Variables, and Behavioral Expectations
This paper presents an updated version of Hewes' axiomatized, stochastic model of the relationships among messages, mediating variables, and behaviors. Several axioms and theorems of this theory were tested in terms of their predictive accuracy. The theory was also tested against an alternative, and more parsimonious, model. Results of both sets of tests were generally supportative of Hewes' theory with overtime predictions approaching 95% accura…
