  • Beliefs in paranormal phenomena and locus of control: A field study

    James J Mcgarry, Benjamin H Newberry•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1981•Cited by: 6

Beliefs in paranormal phenomena and their relationship to locus of control were investigated for four groups that varied in terms of their involvement with paranormal practices. Subjects completed a questionnaire designed to assess degree of involvement and beliefs in paranormal phenomena, locus of control, sociopolitical attitudes, and demographic characteristics. It was predicted and found that (a) paranormal beliefs increased as involvement in…

  • Inhibition of Huggins Tumors by Forced Restraint

Benjamin H Newberry, Joseph Gildow et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1976

Three experiments demonstrated that chronically administered restraint inhibits the development of DMBA-induced rat mammary tumors. The effect is exhibited in a lower proportion of positive responses, increased latency of tumor development, and lower number of tumors in positive animals when restrained animals are compared with controls. Organ weights failed to show a stress response to restraint. Molar activity data from Experiment III indicated…

  • Truth telling in subjects with information about experiments: Who is being deceived

    Benjamin H Newberry•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1973•Cited by: 2

  • Shock Stress and DMBA-Induced Mammary Tumors

Benjamin H Newberry, Gary Frankie et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1972

This paper presents four experiments dealing with the effects of long-term electric shock stress on rat mammary tumors induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene. A pilot experiment suggested, contrary to expectations based on Soviet reports, a trend for severe stress to inhibit tumor induction as measured by the number of palpable tumors. A second experiment demonstrated that severe shock stress applied for 85 consecutive days produced a reductio…
