  • Age as a moderator of gender differences in Five-Factor Model personality traits: A cross-national and cross-sectional study

Open Access•Arij Yehya, Liisi Ausmees et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2026

This study examines how age moderates gender differences in Five-Factor Model personality traits across cultures.Prior research suggests that women generally score higher than men on these traits, with a larger gender gap observed in personality traits in more economically developed, egalitarian, and individualistic countries.Gender differences also vary across age, yet the timing of these changes and the extent to which they are culturally unive…

  • Most people's life satisfaction matches their personality traits: True correlations in multitrait, multirater, multisample data

René Mõttus, Anu Realo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2024•Cited by: 4

70 and its longitudinal associations with personality traits mirrored cross-sectional ones. We conclude that without common measurement limitations, most people's life satisfaction is highly consistent with their personality traits, even across many years. So, satisfaction is usually shaped by these same relatively stable factors that shape personality traits more broadly. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Moral Expansiveness Around the World: The Role of Societal Factors Across 36 Countries

Open Access•Kelly Kirkland, Charlie R Crimston et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychological and…•2023

What are the things that we think matter morally, and how do societal factors influence this? To date, research has explored several individual-level and historical factors that influence the size of our ‘moral circles.' There has, however, been less attention focused on which societal factors play a role. We present the first multi-national exploration of moral expansiveness—that is, the size of people’s moral circles across countries. We found …

  • Multinational data show that conspiracy beliefs are associated with the perception (and reality) of poor national economic performance

    Open Access•Matthew J Hornsey, Pearson et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2023•Cited by: 9•References: 50

While a great deal is known about the individual difference factors associated with conspiracy beliefs, much less is known about the country‐level factors that shape people's willingness to believe conspiracy theories. In the current article we discuss the possibility that willingness to believe conspiracy theories might be shaped by the perception (and reality) of poor economic performance at the national level. To test this notion, we surveyed …

  • Age differences in personality traits and social desirability: A multi-rater multi-sample study

Open Access•Anita Lenneis, Uku Vainik et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2021

INTRODUCTION: Diurnal preferences have been linked to personality but often with mixed results. The present study examines the relationships between sleep timing (chronotype), diurnal preferences, and the Five-Factor Model of personality traits at the phenotypic and genetic level. METHODS: = 45.76 years; 59% females). Genetic correlations were obtained through summary statistics of genome-wide association studies. RESULTS: Results showed that hig…
