This article describes Walden House's Enhanced Planetree Intervention Component (EPIC), enhanced substance abuse treatment services that offered minority men mental health services integrated with services for substance abuse and HIV. Attrition Biases in a Study of Euro-American and African-American Marriages
Based on survey data from 174 Euro-American and 199 African-American newlywed couples, this study analyzed attrition biases by comparing first-year responses of couples who stayed in the study into its third year (133 Euro-American and 115 African-American couples) with responses from the initial sample. Perceived Barriers to Research among Substance Use Treatment Providers
To help understand substance use treatment providers' attitudes about research, 164 providers completed surveys about experiences with research, perceived barriers, and training needs. Providers tended to consider their agencies' lack of research expertise to be less of a barrier to research than their agencies' focusing on clinical work rather than research. Welfare Reform Sanctions and Financial Strain in a Food-Pantry Sample
Survey and interview data about life after welfare reform were collected from food pantry clients in upstate New York in 1997 and 1999. By 1999, respondents were increasingly likely to have no work or benefits. Having no work or benefits was also associated with having been penalized (sanctioned) for not working or for noncompliance with welfare rules. Sanctions for not working averaged 89 days.
