  • A More Bias-Proof Measure for the Type a Subcomponent of Exaggerated Interpersonal Control

Open Access•Logan Wright, Rebecca A Newman et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1994

This study reports the development and initial psychometric refinement of a forced choice version of the Way of Life Scale (WOLS), a measure of the coronary prone/Type A behavior pattern (TABP) subcomponent of exaggerated interpersonal control. The format of this new instrument requires respondents to choose one of two items that are of equal "favorability." This method is designed to limit the influence of social desirability and of denial on su…

  • Factor Structure of Self-Actualization as Measured from Shostrom's Sav Scale

Open Access•Logan Wright, Kerry W Wyant et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1974

Shostrom's SAV Scale was administered to 393 students at a large southwestern university. Items were factor analyzed according to a principle components solution. Nine factors were derived, which collectively accounted 57% of the total matrix variance. Five of the factors corresponded closely to components of Maslow's self-actualization theory upon which the scale was theoretically based. Two factors corresponded to a single Maslow component, and…

  • Comparison of Two Sociometric Devices for Measuring Personality Integration

    Open Access•Logan Wright•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1971

A comparison was made of two sociometric measures of personality integration. Contrary to prediction, the more brief, 6-item PIRT scale was significantly more reliable ( r 11 = .84) than the lengthier 30-item ESD scale ( r 11 = .74). Also contrary to prediction, neither test was more highly correlated than the other (and therefore more valid) with any of 8 construct-validity measures. It was concluded that the PIRT was the more functional measure…

  • An Attempt to Establish a Secondary Drive Based upon a Primary Appetitional Drive

Open Access•Richard Brozovich, Newton Malony et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1963

Sixteen 150-day-old male albino rats were trained over a 30-day period. They experienced 15 14-hr. periods of food deprivation in a unique environment consisting of a striped box with sandpaper floor and blinking overhead lighting. During testing Ss ate significantly less during and after exposure to the distinctive cues. Although the results failed to demonstrate the establishment of the predicted secondary motivator, the experimental manipulati…

    Open Access•Logan Wright•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

Investigations were conducted to determine the reliability of Duncan's Personality Integration Scale. The two types of reliability investigated were test-retest stability and intersex congruence. The results indicated that Duncan's Scale possesses test-retest reliability for both male and female populations but lacks intersex congruence
